Prioritizing

What's Important to You... And What Isn't:
For you, your career is usually your number one priority.

You don't mind having things to get done... as long as they don't pile up on you.

You attend to almost every priority in your life. You don't neglect much.

You want thinking to be a high priority, but you don't take enough time for yourself.
I'd say the first sentenced is about half-right, the third sentence is 100% wrong, and the last one could not possibly be more correct.

Curious as a Cat

(Link in blogroll)

1) How would you redesign the way movie ratings are assigned?
I would 'de-criminalize' sex, at least Real Sex, i.e. not rape or violent sex. I would move violence-for-the-sake-of-violence into X-rated, i.e. faces blowing up, guts falling out, that sort of thing. And swearing? I'd leave it alone, I guess.
2) What is the best way to make friends?
Smile, be kind, be interested (and interesting), and don't take them for granted or use them. Ever. Ever-ever-ever.
3) What is the most sacred or holy spot you've ever seen?
I loved St. Peter's--outside of the twisty pillars--but it was really too fancy to be holy for me. Durham Cathedral is pretty awesome. But really, the places I've experienced as holy or sacred tend to be hospital rooms, quiet mountainsides, and inside the hugs of friends and family.
4) What is the most irrational thing you've ever done?
Today? This week? I do irrational things all the time; lately, they all revolve around eating. The biggest, most life-changing one was getting married at 22.
5) Show and Tell. What comes to mind first when you see this picture? Or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.

I cannot WAIT for summer! This is a photo from our front garden last year. People around here call columbines "weeds" but I love them. My garden delights in benign neglect, so weeds are good. ;-)

Karma

Take this test!
Doing good deeds seems to be their strong suit and such kind actions are an important way that they've earned their karma up to this point. By giving their time to the people and causes they care about most, they enhance life for their community as a whole. Being willing to lend a hand strengthens their current relationships and may come back to them positively in the future. In their concerted efforts to do what they can for the greater good, they generate positive karma for themselves and the universe.

...and, God knows, a little good karma can't hurt!

Blogthings Splat

Your Personality at 35,000 Says...
Deep down, you vastly prefer being with others to being alone. You love to engage people in conversation.

You are good with your place in the world. You are confident and comfortable with who you are.

Your gift is having a way with words. You know how to express yourself well.

You are inspired by what is possible. Real life is often too ordinary for you.

You are happy as long as you are given some personal space. It's important for you to have your own private life.

Fairly close, not 100%. That first bit is dead wrong.

You Should Live in the Suburbs
Like many people, you like the city - but you don't want to live in it.

For you, the suburbs is the perfect compromise.

You can enjoy the city as much as you want, but you have a quiet, safe neighborhood to come home to.

Yup.

What Your Feet Say About You:

You are more expressive than most people. You let everyone know how you're feeling - the good, the bad, and the ugly.

You are a very passionate person. You are highly charged and easily inspired.

You are an assertive and aggressive person. You are determined and not likely to ever give up.

You take a while to fall in love, but once you do, you stay pretty attached to your partner.

You are not easily frightened, but you have a few strong phobias.

You are intellectual and philosophical. You are more concerned with thoughts than action.

You are a fairly hard worker, but you are also a little spoiled. You like indulge yourself every now and then.

You are easily influenced by other people. You're quite impressionable, so you should only be around people who are a good influence.

Oh, that first line...after this last week...how ironic.

And the final line: I'm becoming more and more aware that I really can't be around negative people. Other people's emotions are very contagious.

Monday Memepile

(All of the following memes can be found in the blogroll, to the left)

Monday's a Bitch
Crackin' Up

1. What's your favourite brand of cracker?
Wheat Thins.
2. Do you like crackers in your soup?
When I was a kid, we always had to have soda crackers in soup. We don't even HAVE soda crackers in the house, and I almost never put them into restaurant soup, unless it's deadly-boring-tasting without them.
3. What's the best kind of cheese to put on a cracker? Or do you have a different favourite cracker topper?
I'm in a phase of Merkt's Swiss Almost cheese. But anything cheesy will do. I love cheese. We may not have Saltines in the house, but we definitely have cheese!! Cheddar, Swiss, Wensleydale, Leicester, Gouda, mozz, you name it....
4. Have you ever set off firecrackers? For what occasion?
I'm not a fan of fireworks. Too many gory stories of people blowing their fingers off, I guess. I like the big shows, but even then, I'm always ready to take off running or call 911 in case of a misfire.
5. Have you ever seen The Nutcracker ballet?
Not all the way through in one sitting. I have seen The Firebird Suite, which I loved, but also found really hard to understand. Not exactly boring, but well toward that end of things. I'm uneducated. However, I love Baryshnikov and Nureyev, so go figure.... ;-)

Manic Monday

Who is the black sheep in your family/group?
In my family, it has always been my brother, although it's entirely possible that at this point I've been added to the "Hopeless" list. At work, it's CT.
If you were a character from a book, what character would you be?
Can I PLEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZE be Laura Ingalls?? Otherwise, I'll settle (ahem) for Kinsey Millhone.
What's your favorite accent?
Italian. And Russian. I don't know why.
My least favorite: New Jersey, extremely nasal Midwest (sorry, peeps), and French.

1) If you could have participated in any political march (protest or support or other), which one would you have chosen.
I don't do big crowds; they really terrify me. I wish I could honestly say I would have participated in any of the various marches on Washington, but I wouldn't have. I would love to have heard King speak in the 60s, though.
2) Talent show tonight!! Give us a preview of your act.
The way I feel right now, it will consist of me sleeping on stage. Otherwise, I guess I could show y'all how fast I type.
3) What architectural wonder would you like to be in charge of, or own?
It would be awfully cool to work in the Library of Congress, or in the Winter Palace (St. Petersburg). Frankly, I'd love to work somewhere in the Vatican, too, but that's clearly not happening. I wouldn't want to own any 'edifice' though--upkeep is a bitch!
4) What is the hardest test you've ever taken?
I keep flunking parenting tests. Another failure this morning.
Academic tests: the History GRE. Lowest score I ever received on ANYthing, ever.
5) Show and Tell. What comes to mind first when you see this picture? Or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.
Public Domain Photo
I like the 'messiness' of the rockets compared to the clean lines of the architecture and light around it. The whole photo screams 1960s to me--Star Trek, boxy buildings, the whole schmear. I think I've seen this in real life...?

I wish we were still sending rockets into space, not just the shuttle. The moonshots were very cool, very positive-thinking, very America-patriotic-woo-hoo, and very "someday I could do that." I guess kids today dream about the shuttle, but the Apollo program just seemed way cooler for some reason. Kind of the difference between Conestoga wagons across the West in 1850 vs. a cross-country railroad trip in 1870. Both cool, but the wagons seem so much MORE cool to me.

Choco

What Your Taste in Chocolate Says About You

You are sweet, mellow, and easily satisfied.
You don't like anything too intense and dramatic.

Deep down, you're a kid at heart... and you're nostalgic for the past.

You are down to earth and lovable.
A true friend, you're very tolerant and understanding.
In fact, your friends' biggest problem is that they don't like each other!

You love being around people. Friendships are important to you.
You feel lost when you're by yourself... so you tend to avoid being alone.

There's some interesting nuggets of truth here. huh

What Your Front Door Says

You are social, giving, and very community oriented.

You like to feel like you're making a difference in the world.

Friendly and optimistic,
you are a very welcoming person.

You like to bring people together. You are the perfect host.

I only chose yellow because I don't know what the color of the siding is. The door should match the siding. If the siding is blue, I wouldn't paint the door green, for example. And white---we have white doors! STUPID. They show every bit of dirt.

(My mom always wanted a red door. She finally got one...on our cabin in the mountains. Last time I was by the cabin--we no longer own it--it was still red.)

I wouldn't. I'd buy the concert DVD when it was released, or crew with the roadies, but I wouldn't ever stand in line overnight for tickets. Unfortunately, I have this thing called A Life....
Dessert What is the most frequent letter of the alphabet in your whole name (first, middle, maiden, last, etc.)?
If I include my middle name, T. Otherwise, there's a tie between T and O, which is a bit odd since Beast has neither letter in his last name. ;-)
