Sunday Stealing

(Link in meme-roll)
The Boat Questions

1. YOU HAVE 10 BUCKS AND NEED TO BUY SNACKS AT A GAS STATION. WHAT DO YOU GET?
Couple of bottles of pop, a candy bar, and a big bag of Cheetos.
2. IF YOU WERE REINCARNATED AS SOME SORT OF SEA DWELLING CREATURE, WHAT WOULD YOU BE?
I wouldn't mind being an octopus.
NINE years ago!!?
3. WHO'S YOUR FAVORITE REDHEAD?
My son.
4. WHAT DO YOU ORDER WHEN YOU'RE AT A DINER?
Of late, it's been either a chicken Caesar salad or a grilled chicken sandwich. Unless it's breakfast in which case the call is for bacon and an English muffin with honey.
5. LAST BOOK YOU READ?
The last one I finished is Just My Luck; I won it in a book giveaway from GoodReads.
6. DESCRIBE YOUR FAVORITE PAIR OF UNDERWEAR?
I have a couple of pair of VS boy-shorts that are super comfy. Actually, everything from there is super comfy. I'd link but the chick wearing the ones I like somehow "forgot" her bra ...sigh.
7. DESCRIBE THE LAST TIME YOU WERE INJURED.
I pinched the outside of my hand in a folding door yesterday. Somehow the thumb on my other hand is very sore today too, though I don't know why. I get hurt pretty much daily, but in little ways mostly.
8. ROCK CONCERT OR SYMPHONY? LAST SEEN?
The last music event I saw was probably at church, so more likely to be nearer the classical end of the scale than rock.
9. IF SOMEONE WERE TO BUY YOU A GIFT, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE IT TO BE?
I don't need anything right now. Maybe some energy and productivity.
10. WHAT TYPE OF SHIRT DO YOU BEST IN?
I live in T-shirts of various types.
11. IF YOU COULD USE ONLY ONE FORM OF TRANSPORTATION FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Well, car of course. I mean I love trains and planes, but they don't go EVERYwhere.
12. WHAT IS YOUR DEADLY SIN?
Sloth.
13. MOST RECENT MOVIE YOU'VE WATCHED IN A THEATER? RATE IT.
Sparky & I went to see "Fantastic Beasts..." last weekend. It was delightful, though some of the FX were a little dicey.
14. IF YOU COULD INVENT ONE THING, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
I would dearly love to excise this whole year from everyone's reality. Including Trump's election. The future is no longer a safe place for me to think about much.
15. NAME AN ACTOR/ACTRESS YOU'VE HAD THE HOTS FOR?
I used to think Tom Cruise was hot, until he went insane on live TV. And Brad Pitt is gorgeous. I just like to look at them--I'm not interested in knowing them.
16. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE CITY? LAST TIME THERE?
Denver. Too long.
17. WHAT'S THE FIRST WORD THAT COMES TO MIND RIGHT NOW?
"Blurry"--because my eyes are.
18. WHAT TYPE OF PET DO YOU HAVE?
We have one guinea pig.
19. WHERE HAVE YOU LIVED THE LONGEST?
In this county. For 22 years.
20. WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON THAT SPENT $100 ON YOU?
Uh, me? I bought some new shoes last month.
21. WHAT'S THE LAST PIECE OF CLOTHING YOU BOUGHT?
Those shoes just mentioned.
22. WHAT WAS/IS YOUR FAVORITE JOB?
I love my current job.
23. WHO MAKES YOU LAUGH THE MOST??
Kids' laughter gets me, and general absurdity.
24. WHAT ARE YOU CRAVING?
Summer.
25. WHAT'S ON YOUR MIND?
Driving 45 minutes one-way to see Beast today, and then turning around and driving home. It's supposed to snow all day and I'm not looking forward to the drive home at all. It could be tricky getting out of the parking lot there and the roads might have gone to hell by 4. Oh well....

Saturday Six

1. I is for IAMATOLOGY: Which home remedy do you have the most success with?
Vitamin C. If I pound it immediately upon feeling slightly sick, I am guaranteed to kick it completely or knock it back substantially.
2. I is for IATOPHOBIA: Which type of doctor or medical expert do you fear visiting the most?
I'm not a huge fan of the eye doctor or the OB/GYN, but I don't really fear any of my doctors.
3. I is for ICON: Of the software icons on your computer, which one do you find yourself clicking on the most?
On my desktop it's definitely Chrome. Nothing else even comes close.
4. I is for INSTRUMENT: Which musical instrument would you be willing to ban from the world?
I'm not a big fan of the soprano sax, but I wouldn't ever try to ban music, even if I don't understand it.
5. I is for INVENTOR: What product do you like enough that you'd like to shake the hand of its inventor?
Book weights.
6. I is for INVISIBLE: If you had the chance to become completely invisible for a week, where's the first place you'd go?
Hmm...not sure. I'd probably hang out at work on a day when I was supposed to be there and see what people say about me not appearing (so to speak). Actually, though, I don't think I have much of a stake in finding this stuff out, so maybe I'd just go sit in random courtrooms and listen to cases, or visit a jail, or take some classes.

Sunday Stealing

(Link in meme-roll)
The OC 25 Meme

1. What is your origin of your first name? What about any nicknames? My sisters named me after a friend. We all have names that are difficult to shorten (mine's the easiest), and my parents did not countenance nicknames.

2. Have you any claims to fame? Absolutely none.

3. If you were famous, how would you introduce yourself to someone who had never heard of you? I wouldn't be famous for a million dollars.

4. Which of your country's achievements do you hold in highest regard? I love that people still expect to U.S. to support the Little Guy. I know from the inside, and from some outsiders, we have a lot of mud on our face, but people still do love the idea of "the land of the free" at least.

5. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? Older.

6. What was your most prized possession as a child? Do you still have it? Depends on what age. I no longer have my Barbie, but I did eventually get my Laura books back (they were 'donated' to my oldest nieces without my approval when I was about 13). I don't have Snake anymore, but I have most of the posters (from Tiger Beat & Teen Beat) that graced my walls as a teen.

7. What would you change about yourself, if you could? I would have more focus.

8. What are you obsessed with? RDA, which is just annoying.

9. What is your greatest achievement so far, or the high point of your career?  (oops, missed this one) My greatest achievement is not ruining my son; he's turning out to be a pretty cool guy.  Career-wise, I have no idea--this is not my goal at work, I guess.

10. When/where were you happiest? The summer of 1975 was absolutely wonderful. I stayed with my sister and her family for 5 weeks while my parents went overseas to see another sister. I didn't really have to answer to Ellen the way I did to my mom--not that she was permissive, but it was just more laid back.

11. And the lowest point in your life thus far? This past year has pretty much sucked since we got back from Italy and England last April. Two family funerals, 3 overnight stays at the hospital for Beast, plus a couple more where he was only in the ER briefly. I had my own ER visit last April too. Sparky heading to college without any real focus on my part. Work has been one low-morale day after another for the whole staff. I haven't felt connected to my real life for over a year.

12. What was the best decision you ever made? Getting married to Beast, and having a baby with him.

13. If you have any body modifications, which was most painful, or which do you regret the most? If you haven't got any, do you have any planned, or would you ever consider getting any? The only body modifications I've had have not been planned ahead, although you could argue that childbirth was a choice I made. I have pierced ears which were no big deal. I had braces--they were not fun. I've had surgery: that totally sucked.

14. What is the most idiotic thing you have ever done while intoxicated? Having "one more."

15. What is your favorite joke? Three dancers walk into a bar...

16. What is the coolest/most impressive thing you own? Hmm. I don't know. I don't really buy things to impress people. I like most everything in my house, I like my car.... Meh.

17. When did you last cry, and why? I teared up during the worship service this morning. I actually cried at the end of Tenebrae after holding it together for the whole of the service...till Amazing Grace started playing.

18. What's the best piece of advice you've ever had? "Don't pick up snakes."

19. Similarly, what's the nicest thing anyone's ever done for you? Listening. And telling me things I don't know about myself.

20. Have you any vices? Nothing that doesn't involve sugar.

21. Do you regret anything? Only about everything. I try, and mostly succeed, not to dwell on it.

22. What is the best invention ever? Central heat and A/C.

23. How would you describe your relationship with your family? Distant (my birth family). Male-based (my household).

24. Who is your biggest inspiration? Smart people's words.

25. What are you going to do when you've finished Sunday Stealing? Take off my socks--my feet are hot--and go get some jelly beans from the kitchen.

Inventions

1. If they could invent a remote control for something in your house that doesn’t have one, what would you wish it to be?
Laundry. Start-to-finish, sort-to-fold.
2. What could your car really use that they just hasn't invented yet?
Well, other than wings...I can't think of anything. Like a hovercraft thing, to pass the slowpokes.
3. Who among your friends could probably be a great inventor if he or she had enough funding to do it?
My nephew James already does this. He's always been the type to build things out of other things.
4. What invention seems to do its job in a less-satisfying manner than the old-fashioned way?
Virtually anything that was made in the last 40 years and includes plastic parts doesn't work as well as stuff made in the 40s and 50s (or before) with non-plastic parts. Toasters, sewing machines, tools, pens, you-name-it.
5. Lately, vending machines have gone beyond drinks and snacks: you can rent DVDs from them or even purchase iPods from them. What's something your life could be improved by if it were available in vending machines?
Healthy food. More vending machines, available EVERYwhere, and low cost.

Lies

1. "Everybody lies. But it's alright because nobody listens." is one of Bud's Law's. What do you lie about?
Absolutely nothing. I'm always honest. <--thus proving Bud's point
2. When you purchase a DVD, what besides the the movie itself, what do you enjoy the most? Is it the director's commentary, the deleted scenes, the bloopers or the behind-the-scenes documentary?
I like the deleted scenes and I also appreciate commentary from the cast and/or crew. In fact, sometimes, the 'extras' are better than the actual movie or show.
3. What would you most like to accomplish before the year is over?
I'd like to get my Christmas shopping done....
4. What is your current percentage of online shopping? Is it going to be more this year than last?
What I've done so far has been 80% online. I will need to do some store shopping though, for a couple of things I need to look at before I bring it home.
5. What's left to do at your place (or where you are going)? Is the tree up? ...or maybe you're just happy you found that fave Christmas coffee mug and are calling that good?
The tree is up, but not decorated. We have 5.5 days to get the whole place in order because I'm hosting the library's Christmas party on Friday. I have to figure out Christmas cards. And presents.
6. If you could get worry-free, cost-free plastic surgery, would you? If yes, where?
I would only do this if I were seriously disfigured (car accident, mauled by a neighbor's chimpanzee, etc.).
7. Do you think the child you were growing up, would like the adult you've become?
Depends on the age. I would probably like me as a very young child and an older teen. Not so much the middle ages.
8. What will you miss about 2011?
The first half was ok, and I loved our trip to Italy and England. The second half of the year was abysmally bad. I hope to never go through anything like it again.
9. What is something you'd love to see invented?
Beast and I were talking today...isn't it about time we have some cures for some major diseases--Parkinson's, cancer, AIDS? I know that's not an invention per se but it's the best thing I can come up with today.

Curious as a Cat

(Link in blogroll)

1) What would you change about your workplace?
I desperately want to move my work area to an office that is NOT the workroom behind the circ desk. In other words, I want a Technical Services Department separate. Before that happens, though, I want to get rid of CT. I can't possibly share an office with that woman.
2) If, for the good of mankind, you could reverse one scientific discovery, what would you choose?
Well, the nuclear/atomic bomb, duh!
3) What is the dumbest thing people do to make themselves better-looking?
Surgery, done solely for beauty, is ridiculous. Running right on its heels, injected poison under the skin.
4) If you worked with one person with X-ray vision, who would you least like for it to be?
Eeew, no one!!
5) Show and Tell. What comes to mind first when you see this picture? Or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.
Public Domain Photo
I think of youth group. Right now, today, everything is reminding me of youth group since I should be working on stuff for that, not doing this. We play a lot of card games. Oh, well.
