Sunday Stealing

(Link in meme-roll)
The Shipwreck Questions
  1. If you were shipwrecked with friends (whether in real life or virtual life or both) think about it and pick some friends and tell us why...
I would be eminently unlikely to be shipwrecked having been on a ship precisely once (for an extended period). BUT in the interest of saying who I would mind being trapped for a significant period of time with: Beast (cuz I like him and he knows stuff), Librarian M (she knows a lot about a lot of sensible things like what to eat and not eat, plus she's fun to talk to), Amy (she'd have books with her), Jet (he'd have a gun with him), Sparky (cuz I like him, he knows stuff, and he has a strong back), and Tech S. at work (because I've never seen her freak out, she can make clothes, and is sensible). This reminds me of doing "Values Clarification" in high school....
  2. Who would throw the wildest parties, and why did you pick them?
I don't really know anyone who throws wild parties. Sorry. I'm too old for that shit.
  3. Who would always fall asleep on the couch, and why did you pick them?
Beast, me, or Sparky. We've done a lot of couch-napping in the past three weeks, all of us.
  4. Who would enter to be in a talent show, and why did you pick them?
Annie, because the girl's got pipes.
  5. Who would try to get out of doing their chores and why did you pick them?
Me. Because I do that so regularly it's not at all funny.
  6. Who would accidentally set the kitchen on fire whilst cooking and why did you stupidly pick them?
I don't think I know anyone this incompetent. Maybe one of my nephews--James or Don--but since they're in their 40s and share a house with each other, by now they've surely learned to make food, right?
  7. Who would try to domesticate an island pet and why did you pick them?
Double pick: Librarians A & C because they are ALL ABOUT animals. Also, my niece Katherine since she's a vet.
  8. Who would make the other carry their bags on a shopping spree and why did you pick them?
Sparky, because he's used to carrying mine. Normally, I would say Beast, but he's in no shape to be carrying anything at all.
  9. Who would throw the first person of[f] the boat and why did you pick them?
Hmm. Can I have my brother do this? He's good at pissing people off--maybe the other person will just jump.
  10. Who would be the best caregiver when someone got sick & why did you pick them?
Guess that would be Julie, who is a nurse and nursing supervisor.
  11. Who would try to force the another to play sports with them & why did you pick them?
Todd. No contest. He's always messing around doing something sports-related: golf, softball, football, soccer....
  12. Who would have the best holiday ideas for your space on the island and why did you pick them?
Carolyn because she's constantly over-compensating in areas like this, and she's literally the only person I know who would carry through doing this regardless of what anyone else is doing.
  13. Who would need to clean out someone others stuff to make room for their own & why did you pick them?
Whoever jumped overboard to avoid my brother won't be needing any space, but I'm not sure would be good at packing up their stuff. Maybe Librarian T? She would just get on with it.
  14. Who worries about how they will look when they’re older & why did you pick them?
My sister Marie because it's all she talks about these days.
  15. Flashes everyone when they walk by after taking a shower alone & why did you pick them?
Marie's husband Jan, because given any encouragement whatsoever he'd totally be doing this IRL. He's such a fucktard.
  16. Who wakes you to asks weird questions in the middle of the night & why did you pick them?
Oh goodie, I get to include Rachel, without whom this meme wouldn't be complete. She and Annie would conspire to do this, as they have done in the past. :D
  17. Who will constantly ask you “what are you thinking about?” & why did you pick them?
I don't think I know anyone who does this, except me. Maybe Gail?
  18. Which of your friends on this island might being too touchy-feely while you interact, why did you pick them?
Aside from Jan? There are some patrons who verge on creepiness, but otherwise I don't think there is anyone I hang out with that's any more touchy-feely than I'm comfortable with. Because I probably wouldn't hang out with them then, eh?

Sunday Stealing

(Link in meme-roll)
Ask, ask, ASK

1 - Who was the last person you texted?
I responded to a (small) group Facebook PM this morning; this and my phone messaging are now linked so it's ridiculously easy to text the wrong person by accident from my phone now! However, this one was legit. My reply: "I'll defer to Leslie on this , but I will campaign for you guys too. And as long as it's not on a Tuesday or Wednesday, I'll totally be there." This in response to an out-of-state friend whose husband has just written a book and is looking to do a bookstore visit at our local indie to publicize it. I know the owner. And "Leslie" works there.
2 - When is your birthday?
In 6 days.
3 - Who do you want to be with right now?
No one. I will have the house to myself for a couple of weeks starting tomorrow for the first time in MONTHS! I can't wait!
4 - What sports do you play?
I don't.
5 - Who is the first person in your blogroll?
"First"? It's alphabetized, and I can't even remember who got added when. A couple of those listed are mine, so I guess those would be the oldest.
6 - What is your favorite song at the moment?
I woke up with P!nk's "OMG" on repeat play in my head this morning. While I did hear it (in headphones) at work this week, it isn't the song one would expect me to be humming, not of late. Disclaimer: do NOT click on that link if you are in a PG-rated location!!
7 - If you were stranded on an island, who do you wish to be with?
MacGyver, preferably the old one, not the current one. But he doesn't need to RUSH getting us rescued, just that he's able to do it eventually.
8 - What do you feel right now?
The of-late ever-present sinus headache. Slightly chilly feet (it's 64 degrees and the front door is open ON NOVEMBER 6!! Crazy weather!). And the laptop keys. Because yes I am that literal.
9 - What chocolate is your favorite?
Cadbury. Which is now owned by Kraft, so it's going to get crappy. After that, I'll be heading to Germany for my choco fix.
10 - How many boyfriends/girlfriends did you have?
Cue massive increase in headache pain. Jeez, I'm nearly 53; when will this question just stop!?
11 - Why did you create a blog account?
Because I'm a huge copycat and all the Kool Kids were doing it!
12 - Who is your favorite blogger?
Amy. I never know what I'm going to get when she posts, but it's always ALWAYS interesting.
13 - Where do you want to be right now?
As always, I would love to be in the Colorado mountains somewhere in a cabin with a very comfy bed, snuggling in for a mid-afternoon nap next to a cuddly puppy.
14 - What do you want to be in the future?
Alive. One of the kids in Sunday School today said that her plan for adulthood is to "live until [she] die[s]." I call that a pretty good life plan.
15 - When was the last time you cried? Why?
Friday at my meeting because I was having a mini-pity-party for myself.
16 - Are you happy?
Driving home from Sparky's yesterday, I found myself thinking that life is Pretty Damn Good right now (then): between the weather, the beautiful skies and trees, Beast snoring next to me in the passenger seat, knowing Sparky's doing all right, on a good road with sensible drivers, the smell of burning leaves around us......
17 - Who do you miss?
This weekend, it's my dad. Yesterday would have been his 97th birthday. He died when he was (just barely) 75. I miss him.
18 - If you were given a chance, would you like to have a different life?
There've been a lot of books of late that talk about being reborn in the same body over and over and what you could change and what you would change once you know what those changes do to the rest of your life. I'd love to do that. Except for having to suffer the loss of good people over and over again....
19 - What was the best thing you were given?
Overall, it has to be a stock of strength: physical, emotional, spiritual.
20 - Who was the last person who called you?
Looks like the last incoming call was a reminder on Wednesday about an appointment on Thursday.
21 - What is your favorite dish?
I'm making homemade mac n cheese tonight with hot dogs for Beast as a bye-bye meal. It is my favorite, hands down, too. My favorite LITERAL dish is perhaps the one I make that meal in. :-)
22 - Who is your best friend?
I have a lot of superb friends, and I feel blessed for every one of them and for every single thing I receive from them not to mention the minimal things I'm able to do for them.
23 - What is your biggest regret?
How much I've let fear rule my decisions.
24 - Have you ever avoided your partner?
Well of course!
25 - Who do you spend crazy moments with?
Anyone willing to put up with me!

Blogthings

You Are Surviving
You are doing what you can to get by in this world, and at times it isn't easy. You're making it though.

You often don't have time for much else than taking care of your own needs. You reach out and give back whenever you can.

Being in survival mode is something we all have to do at times, but there is a danger of staying in it for too long.

See what you can do to build on your life in small ways whenever you can. Before long, you'll be thriving and not just surviving!
Pretty much sums up the last 364 days, yup.

Saturday 9

(Link in meme-roll)
I Will Survive

1. What in the 2011 has proved to you that you are a survivor?
The fact that I'm still alive, still married, and not hospitalized counts for something, I think.
2. Have you ever stayed online for a very long time waiting for someone?
A few times. Not recently, though. There's (almost) always tomorrow.
3. Are REALLY ready for the holidays?
Hell, no.
4. Did you have an imaginary friend as a kid?
Yes. And as I got older, I developed more.
5. What niche network do you watch the most?
Cloo? Spike? WE? I dunno, whichever one has the crime show I want to watch at any given time.
6. Have you ever seen the ocean?
Yes. Atlantic (from the east edge) and Pacific (also from the east edge.
7. Have you ever been hospitalized?
Yup. Twice.
8. What do you think of the US Republican candidates for president?
I try very hard not to. Right now it's kind of a three-ring circus as far as I'm concerned; I'll tune in next year August.
9. Could you imagine life without a computer?
Not anymore.

Sunday Situation

(Link at left)

Situation 1:

You are on a small plane, there is you and you get to choose one special person, and 3 strangers. Also 2 pilots are on the plane. It is at night, during a very bad storm. Unfortunately the plane hits a lot of turbulence, and the controls are not working....no radar screen is showing up for the pilots. Try as they might, they have no control of the plane and it is about to crash. The pilots both did not make it. You have[,] and your complain [companion?], also 2 of the other passengers. You all are bruised up pretty badly but no broken bones. It is night so you just stay put. In the am [sic] you realize you are on a mountain, way in the woods. No cell phones are working......What is your next plan of action?
I'd check the radio in the plane to see if it were working. Presumably the black box and locator are still working, but just in case, I'd call in our casualties at least. After that I'd check the plane for water and see what kind of situation we are in that way. If we were really screwed on all of this, I'd find some way of leaving a trail and try to find a stream and see if it looks possible to follow it down the mountain. I'd also look around for extra clothes or blankets and the first aid kit.
Situation #2

You are at work[;] you have 2 other co-workers there doing the same job as you do. One of the other co-workers have used the company computer to look up a union question, that the boss already has told you the answer to which is totally different from what is on the screen. They leave it on the screen and move away from the computer. The boss finally [s]ee's it and asks the person who did it if they were on the computer and left that there. They total[ly] deny it, making it look like you or the other [i]nnocent one did it....what do you do? [A]nd could you trust that person?
I would tell the boss I didn't look it up, that someone else did. If necessary, yes I would narc out the person who did look it up, depending on the situation under discussion, though I can think of some situations that might make it less likely that I'd tell. Of course I couldn't trust that person anymore.
Situation #3

It is now graduation time. Your eldest child of 16 is graduating high school, and they ask you if they can have a party with about 50 close friends. You agree as long as there is no alcohol [or] drugs on the property. You and your spouse go out to dinner as the party is a hour into it and only 10 people are there. You come home to a couple hundred kids, and already two kegs of beer have been kicked.....what do you do?
Is this before or after I kill my kid?

First of all, I never EVER would go out to dinner and leave the house in the control of my son in these circumstances.

However, should something like this happen, I'd definitely be throwing everyone out, calling parents and pour beer out onto the lawn from the kegs. In fact, y'know, I think I'd call the neighbors to come help me make phone calls. I would certainly threaten to call the cops. If necessary, I would totally call the cops, but that would mean I could be arrested, so I'd prefer not to do that. This is why I wouldn't have left the house in the first place.
