Friday 5

Illness

1. When you’re sick in bed, do you prefer to be left alone or to be taken care of?
I want to be left alone for the most part, but it's nice to have someone on call who can bring me a glass of water or something like that.
2. How difficult or cooperative are you as a patient?
Generally, I'm pretty easy, though I'm sure you should probably ask the people who've been around me when I'm sick to be sure. :-) I mostly just sit around feeling sorry for myself.
3. It’s just a really bad cold so all you can do is ride it out. What are your strategies?
Sleep. Take some cold meds if they'll have any effect at all. Sleep some more. When my sleep meter is full, watch TV until I fall asleep again. If I can read, I'll read too, but often my brain is too messed up to make sense of what I'm reading.
4. How ill do you have to feel in order to shut it down for the day?
If I'm spending more time and energy thinking about feeling lousy, or keeping upright and functional, it's time to call it.
5. Waves of nausea are washing over you and through you. Do you fight them off, or do you just throw up to get it over with?
Weird: the first thing I thought of was this song @ about 1:30.
OK, to answer the actual question...My early nausea-warning system goes off a good 2 hours at least prior to any actual reverse peristalsis occurring. I usually start by trying to ignore it, but after 2+ hours of feeling like I wanna die/praying for deliverance & bargaining with God/shivering and shaking/generally feeling like a large pile of protoplasm, I just want to be done. Throwing up tends to sound like nirvana at that point. Anything so I can stop feeling so incredibly horrific. [One unfortunately memorable day I managed to repress the nausea for about 7 hours because I was home alone with a two-year-old. However, I was hugging the porcelain within 15 minutes of Beast's return from work.]

I have thought I am a "leave me alone" sick person but I can't think of a time I've ever had anybody take care of me when I'm sick.
