Friday Memefest

Food 4 Thought Friday

Breakfast
Would you rather be really hungry or really tired?
Tired. I'm more used to it, and it doesn't make me headachy and sick like hungry does.
Lunch
What is your favorite thing about blogging?
Probably the venting I do, but I have come to cherish several people I've gotten to know (or gotten to know better) through blogging, too.
Dinner
If you were given three hours to do anything, but could not clean or catch-up on things you were behind on, how would you spend it?
Oh, definitely lying in the sun, with or without a book, but definitely with a cold drink and no one bothering me.
Midnight Snack
Are you persistent or do you give up easily?
At a job review once, I was dinged for being "like a dog searching for a bone." On the other hand, I have a tendency to cave in on certain issues. {shrug}
Recipe of the Week (instead of your recipe for life, what is it just for this week?)
Chili! (and the usual "just get through it" because that's about all I can manage after a day like yesterday)

Four for Friday

Q1 - Nobel Peach [sic] Prize: The Nobel Peace Prize -- one of five Nobel Prizes bequeathed by Swedish industrialist and inventor Alfred Nobel -- is supposed to be awarded to the person who "shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses." Do you think President Obama deserves the Prize?
Wait? Obama got a peach award? I missed this!
In all seriousness, this was CLEARLY a referendum on Obama NOT being Bush. I'm ok with him receiving it because I think he will earn it, but he really should have earned it first.
Q2 - Bodyguards: If for some reason you absolutely had to have two bodyguards for your own personal safety and protection, and one had to be someone you personally know, while the other could be anyone dead or alive, who would you choose and why?
So tempted to say Chuck Norris....
OK, seriously: Beast and Ziva (from NCIS). Oh, it has to be someone 'real'? Then Beast and Elizabeth Bathory.
Q3 - Airbrushing: Like many nations, France requires health warnings on tobacco and alcohol, as well as similar labels on processed food containing genetically modified ingredients. Now some French legislators want to take consumer protection to an unprecedented level, requiring that advertisements, product labels and even campaign posters carry a warning when they feature a photograph that's been digitally enhanced or airbrushed. Would you be in favor of such a requirement or do you think when it comes to advertising, there's nothing wrong with a little artificial reality?
Oh, I am TOTALLY all about this! Yes, please, can we see the before/after shots too?
Q4 - Freedom of Speech: The U.S. Supreme Court voiced deep free speech concerns this week about a law designed to stop the sale and marketing of videos showing dog fights and other acts of animal cruelty. The justices heard an hour of lively debate about the scope and intent of the decade-old statute that supporters say has done much to stop the spread of profiting from the torture and abuse of animals. But media groups and the National Rifle Association were among those who say the law is overly broad. Do you think the current federal law outlawing the sale of graphic videos of animal cruelty amounts to a violation of free speech rights?
No, I do not. I haven't read a lot about this, but there is no reason to propagate this sort of thing at all. And no, I do not belong to, nor would I ever join, PETA. But frankly, at this point anything the NRA is against, I'm for.

Friday 5
Similies

1. Who in your life is as blind as a bat?
Me, and my eldest brother-in-law, whose vision is actually WORSE than mine. Somehow.
2. Who in your life is as happy as a clam?
Most of the little kids I know fit this description, so lets go with Charlie. [aside: why are clams so happy?]
3. Who in your life is as mad as a wet hen?
I think right now this award goes to Amy. In general, about everything, however, it's DEFINITELY Katherine. Hands down.
4. Who in your life is as stubborn as a mule?
Beast.
5. Who in your life is as quiet as a mouse?
Uhhhh....? One of the women I work with is really quiet. Really, really, really quiet. It's rather freaky. And she's the only one I can think of, too.
