School & Education

1. Do you have children in school?

One who just started high school.

2. Are YOU currently in school (any level)?

Just the College of Hard Knocks.

3. Did you (or your children) attend a public or private school?

All of us are public K-12, but Beast and I went to a small, private Presbyterian college. Then it was back to public university.

4. As far as formal education, what level have you completed?

I have an MLIS...a Master's in Library & Information Science.

5. Do you, or did you have loans out for your (or your children's) education?

I had a few loans, both to the feds and to my folks, nothing major. They were paid off long ago, within about 6 years of graduation. I expect we'll have some loans for Sparky's college, and so will he.

6. What are your thoughts on the cost of tuition for colleges and universities?

Our college now costs over $28,000/year in tuition, room & board, and miscellaneous fees. If Sparky intends to go there (or anywhere else like that), he will be needing some REALLY OUTSTANDING grades for scholoarships, and lots of financial aid incentives on top of that. It would help a little if he never planned to eat, too. ;-) He can attend an in-state public university for about half that cost. I think that's pretty fair, actually, considering what you get during that year of college....
