Friday Freedom
This week’s questions are in honor of Canada Day and Independence Day.
1. What does freedom mean to you?
Freedom, to me, means a feeling of being able to exert control over my life, make choices and do what I think is right without fear of reprisal as long as my choices don't impact other people's lives. It also means a sense of having some responsibility toward how the future of my country--and life--turn out. It's not a free pass to do whatever the hell I want with no accountability.2. How do you celebrate holidays like these?
If I'm home, I put out our flag and attend whatever local celebrations there are. I also will do neighborhood parties, and watch for fireworks at dusk. And then wait--several hours--for the good ol' boys to stop shooting off their own firecrackers and pass out drunk in their yards so that I can go to sleep. If I'm not home, I watch the fireworks, and then go to sleep.3. If there was one thing you could change about your country, what would it be?
Our leadership, and the apathy of the voters.
