What’s the oldest thing in your fridge?
It's questions like this that help me make it through power outages like last summer's. I can date nearly everything in my fridge pretty exactly, except the condiments--mayo, salad dressing, ketchup, parmesan, etc. Every once in awhile, I'll look at the use-by date just before I scoop out some bleu cheese dressing, and then have a weird moment of nausea and gratefulness when it says I was supposed to throw it away 8 months ago. Then we have a Pitching Party.
However, last summer's outage meant we threw away a LOT of stuff. So I can pretty safely say that there is nothing over 6 months old in the fridge--except perfume. That's been in there for about 2 years because that scent is no longer made, and I stocked up. Keeping the unopened bottles in the fridge till I open them is supposed to keep the scent from deteriorating.
I'm truly a geek.
