?otw

Everybody does stuff that they don’t want to do, but we do because either it’s the social norm, or because we get paid, or whatever. For instance, I don’t know anyone who loves to stop at red lights, but we all do it. There’s a payoff in that (with few exceptions) we don’t get hit by other cars when we stop at red lights. Or we don’t tell our boring co-workers to shut the frell up about whatever medical procedure they’re about to undergo because there’s a payoff in having a working environment in which everyone plays nice-nice.

What do you do, that you don’t like to do, but you do because there’s a payoff? What’s that payoff? If you didn’t get that, would you still do whatever it is you’re doing? I’m talking anything from "I know I should quit smoking" to "I don’t punch people in the face" to "well, I have this crack habit." Tell me what keeps you doing the same thing, this thing that you’d rather not be doing.
This is the first thing that popped into my head. It's weird and then it led to even weirder stuff. The main reason I clean anything is so that I don't have to live in a sty. I don't ENJOY cleaning at all. I enjoy being finished with cleaning, however.

What that led to was my weird propensity to cleaning the toilet inside and out, regardless of the last time it was cleaned properly, when I feel like I'm going to throw up. I canNOT stand the thought of puking into a dirty toilet!

OK, I'm going to go hide now. That's just bizarre.
