Born to Be

1. If you were an actor, what role do you think you were born to play?

The easy, far-too-tempting-to-pass-up answer is Me. I think I'd do all right as Kate in "Taming of the Shrew."

2. If you had limitless technical knowledge, what one item would you invent right now? What already existing invention do you wish you could take credit for?

What would I invent? A cure for cancer so we could get on with figuring out all the other ways to die painfully and slowly.
I'd love to take credit for indoor plumbing.

3. Did you have the sort of parents who were of the opinion that you were born to be something (i.e., lawyer, doctor)? What did you think of their choice?

My parents, like Bill Cosby, just wanted me to grow up, stay out of jail, and keep quiet. They're happy that I'm a productive (relatively) member of society.

4.Do you possess any hidden talents? If so do you think you could make any money off of them?

Yes, I do. If I wanted to structure my life that way, I'm sure I could make buckets of money. But I'm lazy and partial to my non-felonious existence.

5.Are there any fairly simple or "mundane" skills you are completely lacking in? (e.g., drawing, whistling, cooking...)

I can't be bothered with drawing, unless it's architectural, and I lack talent with it anyway. I can whistle a tune, but I can't do that piercing attention-grabbing whistle. I can cook, but I don't really enjoy it. Other mundane stuff: I can balance a checkbook (not that anyone does this anymore...), I can throw a football and a baseball, I can change a tire if need be, I can drive a manual transmission, I can hang a picture/drywall/the bikes on the hooks in the garage, I can clean porcelain till it practically glows, I can remove a splinter or a tick from the skin, I can sew, I can iron.... My parents and my husband have trained me pretty well for most situations.

Oooh, I know: I can't ever figure out how to tape stuff from the TV using the VCR; we've had this VCR for almost 8 years, and I still just can't sort out the order of button-pushing necessary. This is the main reason I want TiVo!

And I can't darn a sock. But why the hell would I want to? hah
