Food

from Lisa

How do you like your eggs?
The only way I don't like eggs is soft-boiled. And, well, raw.
Unfortunately, I seem to have developed an intolerance to eating eggs; I get a terribly upset stomach if I eat them.
How do you take your coffee/tea:
Don't drink coffee. I like strong black tea, though I'll drink flavored and green teas too.
Favorite breakfast foods:
Bagel/cream cheese (though right now I'm having a slice of last night's pizza, cold).
Peanut butter: smooth or crunchy?
Smooth
What kind of dressing on your salad?
Blue cheese, on the side.
Coke or Pepsi?
Whatever ya got, diet please.
I'd like to say I prefer Pepsi, but honestly I can't tell the difference anymore.
You're feeling lazy. What do you make for dinner?
A phone call. ;-)
Or we have our regular night of "fend" (fend for yourselves, boys).
You're feeling really lazy. What kind of pizza do you order?
Our normal is a large deep-dish with sausage, Canadian bacon and mushroom. I'd prefer onions, but Sparky won't eat them. It's easier to skip 'em than listen to him gripe.
You feel like cooking. What do you make?
If I ever feel like cooking, it's time to make a call to the doctor!
Having said that, I don't mind making macaroni & cheese, or Fireman Lasagna, or Thanksgiving dinner.
And I do like to bake, if I have enough time to do it properly.
Do any foods bring back good memories?
When Sparky was little, we'd have an indoor picnic on his birthday: a blanket on the floor of the living room and (usually) homemade macaroni & cheese with hot dogs. His birthday is in February; hard to plan a picnic outside that time of the year.
Do any foods remind you of someone?
Post 40% Bran Flakes remind me of Dad. Oatmeal raisin cookies remind me of Mom and my brother. Liver reminds me of Mom. Tang reminds me of my nieces (is Tang considered food??), diet Pepsi in a long-neck bottle reminds me of my sister....
Is there a food you refuse to eat?
Liver. Brussels sprouts. I don't care for raw tomatoes either, but I'll eat them if I have no choice. ick
What was your favorite food as a child?
Macaroni & cheese was a treat (I still use the same recipe most of the time when I make it). So were fish sticks, and actually any fish at all: when Dad was out of town, Mom and I would always have fish and rice because we could. Dad hated both.
Is there a food that you hated as a child but now love?
I used to not like onions at all; now I love 'em. I used to refuse to eat raw carrots; I eat them now.
Is there a food that you loved as a child but now hate?
I used to love raw celery but now I'd rather have carrot sticks. I can't think of anything else.
Favorite fruit or vegetable:
Fruit: Cherries
Vegetable: Corn
Favorite junk food:
Anything with proceessed sugar.
Favorite between meal snack:
I'm trying not to do this; my 'between-meals' snacks tend to resemble mini-meals. If I'm desperate right now, I'll have a South Beach snack bar (maple nut) or a little container of jello.
Do you have any weird food habits?
Cold pizza for breakfast? :-) I'm sure I have several, but I can't think of anything outrageous. I tend to eat all of something on my plate before moving on to the next thing: all the potatoes, then all the meat. I used to do this all the time, but I have improved over time.
Oooh, here's one: I like white-bread-with-sliced-cheese-and-margarine sandwiches...with potato chips inside the sandwich. Don't do it often, but I do love that crunch! It's probably the only way I actually enjoy potato chips!
You're on a diet. What food(s) do you fill up on?
I'm eating a lot more yogurt than normal (that's a good thing) and much less sugar. I'm also eating a LOT of pistachios and fruit. Really, though, I'm trying to eat when I'm hungry and not stuff myself then.
You're off your diet. Now what would you like?
Sugar. And fat. Almost any presentation of above is fine. If I were fussy, I'd say Sour-Patch Kids and/or fettucine alfredo.
How spicy do you order Indian/Thai, etc?
I'm the last remaining person on the planet who hasn't ever had Thai food so I'm not even sure of the heat scale. I generally like stuff warm but not to the point of pain. On a scale of 1-10, maybe a 6.
Can I get you a drink?
I'd like a vodka tonic with a lime. If I'm getting wine, a Gewurtztraminer or good Chardonnay. I had a fabulous chablis at the hole-in-the-wall Italian place we ate at last week. Do I remember the name? Nope.
Red wine or white?
I used to only drink red. Now I can't drink it (headaches). Luckily, I discovered I don't mind white wine!
We only have beer:
Then I'll be having some water, or pop, please.
Favorite dessert?
Anything except tapioca or rice pudding. Pie, cake, cookies, creme brulee, whatever: bring it on!
The perfect nightcap?
Lately, it's been water with a Benadryl. I don't really 'do' nightcaps.
