Five on Friday

Swimming Lessons

1. Do you know how to swim?
Nope, to my regret. Someday I'll learn, hopefully not while trying to swim to safety!
2. Have you ever had swimming lessons? Did they help?
Yes. Long story there. Two main points:
  • the ones we paid for--only went to one of the lessons
  • I had to pass a swimming test to graduate from high school; on the other hand, they're going to hold back (one of) the valedictorian(s) because she can't swim?
  • 3. When was the last time you went swimming?
Last time I was in a pool was last summer. I'll be in a pool in two weeks...same pool, same shallow end. ;-)
    4. Can you open your eyes under water? Do you plug your nose before going under? Do you even go under?
I don't like going underwater but I can do it. No, my eyes stay firmly shut; they simply won't open. I don't worry about my nose, but I really hate water in my ears!
    5. Your preference: salt water, fresh water, or pool water?
For the purposes I use water (i.e. not swimming) it makes not the slightest difference to me, as long as we are talking about clean water.

In other words, I won't go near the lake in the town where I live (people frequently develop rashes after swimming in it), but I love wading in Moosehead Lake. And the ocean is just fun.
