This week's questions were suggested by Christine.
- Do you read non-fiction books for pleasure, not counting books required for courses or for work?
Yes, I do. I try to balance the crap fiction I read with some nonfiction of some substance.
- If so, what areas of non-fiction interest you the most? If not, why not?
I have read a lot of early Church history, and I've read almost every "quest for the historical Jesus" book published in the past 20 years. I also like true medical books, and books about language. And history. Let's not forget travel and history....
- What are some of your favorite (or least favorite) books from those areas?
John Dominic Crossan always makes me smile. I like Bill Bryson, almost everything he writes makes me fall out laughing. Paul Theroux makes me snort with recognition in his travel books. Ken Burns' U.S. history books are good for lightweight pictures-and-painless-facts.
