Manic Monday

Vacation --All I ever wanted --Vacation --Had to get away

What is the worst vacation you've ever been on?
I don't remember ever having a terrible vacation. There's always been some redeeming virtue. The worst one I can think of personally was developing pneumonia in the mountains of Colorado when I was about 10. Of course, at the time it just seemed to me like a bad cold, but my mom actually looked for a doctor at one point (the only clinic in the small town was closed that day). When I got home, I was fever-ridden and put on antibiotics and codeine. The whole period is a complete fog. No more riding in pickup trucks over mountain passes for me! :-)

The last time I went to England with my parents, we had kind of a crappy trip, too: I dropped my baby nephew on his head, I was terribly homesick (actually, I missed my sweetie), my dad had his pocket picked in London, mom developed a really painful toothache (which led to a root canal upon returning), the weather at the seaside was FUCKINGCOLD, and our flight home got completely balled up. Still, I remember the trip fondly; it was all a big adventure.

Where did you go on vacations with your family when growing up?
Mostly we went to the mountains to our cabin. We also spent a lot of time driving from Denver to Casper where one of my sisters lived. We visited Milwaukee to see another sister, and England twice to see the third sister. There was a nice trip to San Diego when I was around 15 to visit relatives, too. We didn't go places and stay in hotels very often.

If you could set the national speed limit for all highways, what would it be?
If there is actually traffic on the roads, 60 is fine. For those states where the tumbleweeds and/or sheep outnumber the human inhabitants, I think we could bump it to 75.

If money were no object, would you rather fly or drive on a vacation?
Depends where I'm going. If it's a long distance in a short time, flying's the only way to go. If the point is to stop-and-go a lot, then driving is better. I'd generally rather drive just so I have more control over the trip in general.
