Many female singers make use of their range, but it's Mariah Carey who is known for her five octave voice range Mariah also utilizes "melisma," the practice of singing single syllable words over several notes. You might not be able to reach those high notes like Mariah, but who's to say that you couldn't hold your own in a reality-based music show like American Idol or Making the Band? You might not be making your own music, but chances are that you've fantasized about being a rock star for a day...maybe even Courtney Love. Hey, it's just one day.
If you were lucky enough to attend one of the Live 8 concerts organized to bring worldwide attention to the abject poverty in Africa, you were part of an historic event. Yes, the music was loud enough to be heard, and even loud enough to make your ears ring, but unless you were one of the lucky souls up front, hopefully you still have most of your hearing intact. And, as you are well aware of, large venue or small, music needs to be heard to be appreciated.
You don't need to display your talents in front of a crowd. You are happy to perform in the shower, in your car, or anywhere else you can't be heard by other people. Is this because you're shy, or do you suspect that some straight-talking Simon Cowell (American Idol's judge) might deliver the verdict, "That was terrible, I mean just awful"? Fortunately, we can all have great music style by living vicariously through our favorite artists.
This one ended up with some awfully strange results, considering the answers I gave.
