Sunday Stealing

A Story Teller's Meme

1. What are your current obsessions?
Transcription of National Archive documents so they are searchable. I'm doing the registration book for a D.C. insane asylum in the late 19th century. It's sad, funny, weird, and occasionally just plain creepy. Some of the people admitted in the early 1880s were still there after World War I!
The other is trying to plan this bloody wedding trip in September--getting everyone on a plane and into a house rental has taken, literally, 3 weeks and we're still not done with the drama!
2. What are you listening to?
Right now, the British Open is on TV so I'm hearing the sound of well-behaved golf fans and the nattering of sportscasters.
3. Which item from your wardrobe do you wear most often?
These clamdiggers I've got on today. I am going to need to replace them and that makes me sad. But the seat is wearing thing. They're just light cotton knit cheap as hell, but they're utterly comfy. Otherwise, jeans. I need to replace those as well.
4. What are you reading?
According to my GoodReads: Forty Stories (ebook) (Cal Morgan, editor); The Art of Language Invention by David J. Peterson; and The Master of the Prado by Javier Sierra.
5. What’s for dinner?
Jeez, it's not even 10 a.m. yet and you're nagging already?? lol Beast has had an upset stomach for three days, so whatever we end up having, it's going to be light. Maybe grilled cheese sandwiches and soup.
6. What was the last thing you bought?
A can of pineapple. Yes, random. So, on the way home from a lunch date yesterday I stopped for a grocery run. When I left, I found a text from Beast asking for pineapple, so I stopped at the mini-mart near our house.
7. Guilty pleasure?
Sleep. Facebook.
8. What training did you get and how do you make a living?
I'm a degreed librarian, which means I have a Master's in Library and Information Science. So impressive.
9. If you could go back in time, knowing what you know now, and choose a different career path, what would you train to do?
Not a thing.
10. What’s your best time of day?
I love early mornings. The day stretches ahead with possibility....
11. Do you like being on a team or are you a solo player?
I'm a good team player but I prefer to work alone because people will need to discuss every-damn-thing!
12. What’s your favorite way to create art?
With words.
13. Name three items in your refrigerator:
Pineapple (lol), leftovers, cheese. So . Much . Cheese !
14. Tell us about your first crush:
His name was Jim Phillips and he was blond and nice and cute. He had no idea I had a crush on him. And then he moved away never to be seen again. ...sigh He's also one of the rare blond guys I paid any attention to; my usual magnet is dark-haired somewhat-sarcastic smart guys.
15. The first time that I became a boyfriend/girlfriend was with who, when?
I dated a guy in high school on and off for a couple of years, but he was all about moving right along to engagement and marriage, and I didn't like him THAT much. I thought his brother was more interesting. Guess which one was dark-haired and sarcastic...huh. I'm still pretty good friends with the bro, and I'm very glad I escaped marriage at 18!
16. Do you remember what you did on your first date?
On the way to a movie, we stopped so I could hold his car in the air while he changed a rear tire. Because he didn't have a jack and it was a Honda Civic, more or less like this. He was SO embarrassed. I thought it was actually pretty awesome. Great story, and it's always good to feel like a superhero.
17. How did you meet your current (or most recent) girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/wife?
Beast had classes freshman year with my roommate, on whom he had a bit of a crush. He'd come over and flirt with her in our dorm room, and she pretty much ignored him (she was having some major issues that year, and sociability wasn't on her "to-do" list). I felt sorry for him, and he was dark-haired, smart, and sarcastic. Also funny. And fun. And he just kept hanging around, along with another guy that I was thoroughly NOT interested in but who couldn't take a hint. I finally had to explain the reality of life to him--while he ironed his graduation gown in his dorm room--and on the way back to my place I ran into Beast who lived in the same dorm. We sat in his room and talked for hours into the early morning hours. It was, and remains, the thing I love most about him, that he's a good listener and a fantastic conversationalist. And funny. And smart. The dark hair is on it's way out though. :)
18. How did your first romantic relationship end?
The high school guy? I just had to find a reason to break up with him without hurting his feelings too badly. It wasn't fun. In fact, it still makes me squirm and seeing him again makes me really uncomfortable.
19. Do you remember your first kiss?
Yes. :)
20. What do we still not know about you?
I don't think I've ever itemized my faults. Or my random physical tics. Nor have I discussed the increasingly irritating panic attacks that have developed over the past 18 months. Essentially, what I'm saying is that there are always unknowable things about everyone, no matter how well you think you know them.

#11...YES!!! Even though I often need a team to keep prodding me in the right direction, I want to bang my head off the wall while things get discussed to death.

My mom was a librarian, too, and I gave it some thought, but it wasn't for me.

Have a great week!
