Things I've Been Thinking About Today
- The death of the adult daughter of a church acquaintance over the weekend. The visitation was tonight at church. I did remember, finally, to get a card tonight to mail tomorrow.
- The breath-stopping realization of something at Bible Study this morning.
- My niece. This ranges from something she shared with me this past weekend that is not bloggable to getting a handle on why she doesn't like to read. I don't think she's much into symbols or metaphors, which sorta makes fiction difficult.
- Cookies. So, yeah, because I was thinking about them, I bought some. ...sigh
- I cataloged very little today, less than yesterday in fact. Instead, I spent a lot of quality time on checking authors and deleting dead authority records in the catalog. If you don't know what I just said, it's ok--most people don't, including an annoyingly high percentage of degreed librarians.
- Finally prepared the mailing for youth group that was meant to go out last week. Better late than never, right?
- IT IS BEYOND FUCKING COLD AT WORK. Really, I don't think the heat has come on yet; it's almost the same temperature inside as it is outside. Since there was snow falling today, that's not good.
- Yeah: snow falling today. It was pretty. I hate winter.
- I wonder if Sparky's friend Jett is going to keep coming over all the time next school year, after Sparky heads to college. Jett is a sophomore this year. His home life is a little fubar (nothing major, just kinda unpleasant and tense). He gets a huge kick out of calling me by my first name--since all the youth group kids do, and he comes to youth group, so.... He works it into conversation EVERY time I see him. It makes me laugh. Mostly I keep it inside. Teenagers=puppies.
- Beast annoys the shit outta me sometimes when he travels. Really. Terrible thing to say, eh?
- I may never have to buy cheese again. Or at least this year. I think we have enough varieties to stock a small deli.
- The book I'm listening to in the car is depressing. The reader isn't very good. Unfortunately, the characters and plot have sucked me in and I will finish it, but I'm not enjoying it.
- At some point, I really ought to update my book blog. I've been thinking about that for about a week now. Maybe more. It's a month out of date. I really have finished several books this month, but I'm sure not reading the volume of material I used to. Curse you, Facebook!!

Hello
I just came back from the poinsettia presentation at church where our youth group presented poinsettias in memory of those who passed. I am sorry for you church member's loss.
I am a writer and lover of reading yet my own kids have a hard time getting into fiction as well. Go figure LOL.
I hear you on the audio books. Some have better readers than others.
Best Wishes

Boy, you have a lot on your mind. I'm an author but never tried an audio book. I'm not sure if I like the concept.

I have one daughter who devours books, and the other is like pulling teeth to get her to read.
I've never listened to an audio book because I am deaf, but the concept has intrigued me for my own books.
Sounds like your head is pretty full. Maybe you deserve some down time, just because..
Happy T13!
Ah yes I got sucked in to the facebook time vacuum also.
agree totally on 8 sandy
Happy TT. And, as a fellow librarian, I feel your pain. Good luck with that. I find that when the reader is bad, it's really hard to get involved with the characters. Who are some of your favorite readers?
I used to listen to audiobooks when I had a 2 hour roundtrip commute to work everyday. The reader makes all the difference in the world!
You sure have a lot on your mind...I hope you take a few minutes to just sit and exist. Don't go batty! :)
I'm staying away from the cookies myself. One cookie can ruin it for me...
Have a great Thursday!

i'm thinking about the fact that my neighbor told me he's been a stripper for 11 years. i did NOT need to know that.

Most people read non fiction anyway. Maybe you can find a book about a hobby she's interested in.
My list is here.
Oh! You must get better books on tape...
...they go well with cookies

As far as readers for books on tape - how do BAD readers get the job? I have listened to a few bad readers and it is SOOOOO distracting. It bothers me to no end.
