Rock 'n Roll Fridays

(Link in meme-roll)
Hits of the 50s

1. Rock Around The Clock - Bill Haley & His Comets
“Put your glad rags on and join me hon' / We'll have some fun when the clock strikes one. / We're gonna rock around the clock tonight / We're gonna rock, rock, rock till broad daylight.”
What artist was the last live concert you went to see?
Any kind of concert: Sparky's final band concert last year. And he's not doing band this year. ...sigh. Last rock concert was U2. We are going to see TobyMac/Skillet/Shonlock in about 3 weeks. Stoked for that.
2. Tutti-Frutti - Little Richard
“Got a girl named Sue. / She knows just what to do. / She rocks to the East, she rocks to the West / But she’s the girl that I know best!”
If you had to live on the East Coast or the West Coast, which would you choose?
West. Not even a contest on this. The Pacific is warmer (where I'd want to live anyway), and I'm a Western kinda gal.
3. Summertime Blues - Eddie Cochran
“I'm gonna take my problem to the United Nations / Well I called my congressman and he said / Quote: "I'd like to help you son but you're too young to vote"”
Have you decided who to elect for the Senate in your local elections?
My real response is "None of the above"--most of them are proven crooks and liars (or nuttier than a Snickers bar), though so far none of them have caught the attention of the national press (so, clearly, I'm not in Delaware, right?). Once again, I'm back to voting against the worse choice, not for my first choice.
4. Great Balls Of Fire - Jerry Lee Lewis
“I chew my nails and then I twiddle my thumbs / I'm real nervous, but it sure is fun / C´mon baby, you're drivin' my crazy”
When was the last time you chewed your nails and twiddled your thumbs?
I bite my nails regularly--it's a bad habit I've had for over 30 years at this point. Twiddling doesn't happen very often, mostly in the car to calm me down. As a passenger. ;-)
5. Earth Angel – Penguins
“I fell for you and I knew / The vision of your loveliness / I hope and pray / I'll be the vision of your happiness”
Did you fall in love quickly with your significant other?
Hah! Not. He annoyed the shit outta me at first. Rather like he does sometimes now. lol
6. Roll Over Beethoven - Chuck Berry
“Hey diddle diddle, I am playin' my fiddle / ain't got nothin' to lose / Roll Over Beethoven and tell Tschaikowsky the news”
What is your favorite classical music selection?
For nostalgia and other reasons, I like the "1812 Overture." But I also like most of what Bach and Beethoven wrote, and as a flutist Vivaldi seemed to come around fairly often in my playlist.
7. Blueberry Hill - Fats Domino
“I found my thrill on Blueberry Hill”
Where did you find YOUR thrill?
This song NEVER fails to remind me of Richie Cunningham. I don't think I heard it in its original form until years after "Happy Days" was off the air. To answer the question, I'm afraid that's classified information and I'd have to kill you if I told you.
8. The Great Pretender – Platters
“Oh yes, I'm the great pretender / Pretending I'm doing well / My need is such / I pretend too much / I'm lonely but no one can tell”
Do you pretend that everything is fine when on the phone with your family/friends so not to reveal your true situation if it is not so rosy?
[And this song reminds me of the Freddie Mercury cover...so sad...] I don't talk to my family on the phone very often; they don't ask, I don't tell for the most part. Seriously, the only person who semi-regularly asks how things are going is my oldest sister, so she's the only one I tell. My brother's a class-A jerk, and everyone else is a niece or nephew and we rarely talk. Sucks to get old(er). Poor me. /pity-party Close friends know the scoop, and I frequently vent about stuff on my blog(s), though I haven't posted in so long on my other blog that I might as well cancel it....
9. Charlie Brown – Coasters
“Charlie Brown, Charlie Brown / He's a clown, that Charlie Brown”
Who is your favorite PEANUTS character and why?
The older I get, the more I relate to Charlie Brown. Snoopy used to be my favorite, and Linus is hard not to love. But I think today I'm going for Schroeder: all he wants to do is what he wants to do and people just keep getting in his way!
10. Poison Ivy – Coasters
“Measles make you bumpy and mumps’ll make you lumpy / And chicken pox’ll make you jump and twitch / A common cold’ll cool you but whooping cough’ll fool you / But poison ivy’s gonna make you itch”
Do you have any allergies? If not, did you get a Flu shot this year?
I am allergic to cats, dogs, mold, various pollens (the major problem due to my location is corn), some trees and grasses, dust, massive applications of scent, and God-only-knows what else; I think I'm developing a little corn-as-food intolerance, too. Can't have morphine, either, though that's not an allergy; it's more of a "my body doesn't process it well plus it doesn't work" thing. The only time I'm unmedicated for allergies is January and February, and even then I have to be careful. I did get a flu shot, Beast got one as well, and am debating whether I should have Sparky get one too.
11. Love Potion No. 9 – Clovers
“ She bent down and turned around and gave me a wink / She said "I'm gonna make it up right here in the sink" / It smelled like turpentine, it looked like Indian ink / I held my nose, I closed my eyes, I took a drink”
What is the worst thing you ever drank?
My mom had some weird, old-fashioned formulae for illnesses when I was a kid. I don't remember any of them being particularly good-tasting, but the worst thing I return to is Nyquil, but ONLY when I'm really at my wits' end with a cold. I'm also not a fan of drinking coffee.
12. Get A Job – Silhouettes
“After breakfast, everyday / she throws the want ads right my way / And never fails to say / Get a job / Sha na na na, sha na na na na”
Have you ever been unemployed? If so, how did you find a job?
I have been VERY lucky in my employment in my life, at least in this way. The only time I was unemployed was by choice after Sparky was born. I shudder to think about searching for a new job. It would be so much easier to be a bitch and sabotage the boss. Not that I'm likely to do that--things aren't quite to that level yet, nor will they be any time soon--because I would like to NOT HATE MYSELF for the rest of my life.
13. Sixteen Candles – Crests
“You're only sixteen (sixteen) / But you're my teenage queen (you're my queen) / You're the prettiest, loveliest girl I've ever seen”
How did you celebrate your 16th birthday?
It was very 50s, actually: my parents drove me and 3 friends to a movie ("Time After Time"), picked us all up and we went back to my house for cake and ice cream. Don't think there was a sleepover, don't remember any gifts from anyone, just the movie and sitting around the dining room table gossiping about classmates.

Cat, always enjoy your answers. : ) Thanks for playing my meme! Loved your answer to #8. Reminds me too much of my own family, sadly. Yikes on the allergies! Hope you have a great week.
