Each week we will pick a famous person and pick ten of their quotes. Each of our questions will be based on the quotes. Got it? Great! Let's begin this week's meme! Today we picked Simon Cowell.
1. “If your lifeguard duties were as good as your singing, a lot of people would be drowning.” How well do you swim?
I don't swim at all, I only drown. Fortunately, my singing hasn't even killed anyone. A few dogs might have been injured, but no one has died.2. “I think he knows how to articulate something that people are entertained by and still be true to the message he's trying to send, ... very aware of himself.” How self aware do you think you are?
I think, Simon, you're overthinking what the contestants are doing up there. Personally, I'm fairly self-aware, certainly much more so than I was at 25. There are some areas where I'm emphatically not aware at all, but they aren't areas on which I care to dwell. [which probably means those are the areas I need the most work...yeah, yeah, I know]3. “If you've got a big mouth and you're controversial, you're going to get attention.” Who has a big mouth that you like?
"Like" being a relative term here: PTF, Bill Maher, Jon Stewart, Beast. Me?4. “I think you have to judge everything based on your personal taste. And if that means being critical, so be it. I hate political correctness. I absolutely loathe it.” Do you believe in political correctness?
I believe in tact. If you want to call that PC, fine, but I don't think they are the same thing. Since we discussed self-awareness above, I think "other-awareness" is JUST AS important. If you need to say something that might be hurtful, why choose the MOST hurtful way of saying it when it may be possible to get your point across more kindly. Having said that, I agree that if you don't like something you should just say so.5. “I find Paula patronizing. It's as simple as that. Paula is more damaging than I am to these contestants because a lot of people just shouldn't be singing for a living.” Do you ever patronize people?E
veryday at work when I'm dealing with PATRONS. ;-) Seriously: I try not to. I hate being on the other side of this sort of thing, but sometimes... [and, for what it's worth, I agree with Simon here too]6. “Not everybody is perfect, and I don't think we should be looking for perfect people.” Do you or someone you know strive constantly to be perfect?
Ha ha ha ha ha...uh, yeah, that would be my family trait, uh-huh. It's killer.7. “I never want to hear that song again. I cannot stand it. I'm allergic to it.” What song are you totally sick of and why?
"Stairway to Heaven." If I never, ever hear it again it will be too soon.8. “I like the fact that they're cocky now from the age of four.” How old were you when you got cocky? What changed to make you so?
Not sure I've ever been cocky. I'm confident about a few things, but hopefully I'm not cocky. See how I (almost) made it without mentioning South Carolina?9. “And there's more open hostility among them because the competition is so intense.” When you compete with someone, have you ever gotten hostile?
Oh, yeah. You do not want to be around when I'm on a losing streak in a game. Even Sparky knows better. I'm not proud of it, but there it is.10. “Why are you having a normal conversation with him? This is a dairy farmer dressed as a woman.” Do you talk differently to someone because of the way that they are dressed?
WTF?! That's, wow, just amazingly rude, Simon! I know plenty of women farmers who do NOT look like men dressing as women. ... Anyway, I try hard not to pay attention to the way people are dressed, but I admit that I listen differently to people who appear to be homeless or slightly unhinged, and I'm more careful about what I say to them.
4 sweet-talkers :
You have a point. That was kinda rude.
Have a great day!

Now, obviously you don't only drown. Unless your ghost write this blog. Wow dude. That would so rock! ;)
Harriet: Simon crosses the rude line like this just a little too often for me to really like him.
Bud: What makes you think this blog isn't ghostwritten? (baDUMbum)
I also cringe at Stairway to Heaven.
...and yes Simon is way to mean for me to really really like him. Loved your sense of humor, made your answers way cool.
