Saturday Six
1. List the social networking sites you have either tried or still use.
I have an account with OKCupid, for the quizzes. I joined Friendster and MySpace to see what the fuss was about but never really used 'em. Signed up with Linkedin, but don't really check that too much. Do Blogger, Haloscan, and Bloglines count? I've been using them for 5 years (I have access to, uh, 16? blogs now). Uh, LJ, Wordpress, Xanga, and pbwiki, too, and OpenID (I actually use that last one when I go into deep hiding to comment on local people's blogs.) I use Meebo to IM from my blog. I have access to two Twitter accounts: one personal, and one work-related. And of course Facebook. I think there are a few others too, but I can't remember...Oh, deli.cio.us and LibraryThing. I also use GoogleDocs to share stuff. I think that's it. Maybe. ;-)2. Of the social networking sites you’ve actually tried, which one is your favorite? The most useful right now is Facebook, though I'm not enamored with their most recent redesign. I can't find stuff in my profile! But I can keep track of all the many strands of my life: church, work, family, and random friends old and new. 3. What’s the biggest drawback to such sites, in your opinion?
Keeping track of all the logins!!! I think the difficulty a lot of people have is oversharing and regretting what they've done.4. Other than it being the "hip thing to do," what’s the main reason you’d at least consider joining such a site?
For very specific payback: writing for blog platforms, keeping in touch with people for Facebook/LinkedIn, goofing around for OKCupid...5. Take the quiz: Are You Facebook, MySpace or Twitter?
I am le Twit.6. Do you have more people you'd call friends in real life, or on your profile called friends by the system at your most-used social networking site?
There are VERY few people I'd call friends in real life, because I'm pretty stingy with that term. One of the only things I like about MySpace is the concept of "Top [#] Friends" because most of the people I communicate with online I'm loathe to call friends, regardless of what Facebook calls 'em. ;-)
Having spouted about that, there are FAR more people IRL for me who aren't online anywhere. Anywhere that I'm aware of, at least.
