Daily Three

(Link at left)

1. Do you feel the need to say something such as "There you go!" when handing something to another person?
I sort of do when I'm at work, especially while checking someone's books out. It's convenient that I can always pull out the "Those will be due in three weeks" comment. I find "there ya go!" really annoying (to myself) but it doesn't bother me when other people do it.
2. In reference to different regional slang, how do you describe the following things where you're from?
a.) An expensive item (for instance in MN, we use the term "spendy".) The only thing that comes to mind is "pricey." And of course, the vomitosus "bling." Oh, and "steep."

b.) The place where you buy food That would be the grocery store. Or the name of the store in question. Growing up, we always went to "Kings" (King Soopers), even when we were going elsewhere.

c.) The fizzy stuff you generally drink from a can or bottle Pop. When I went away to college, I had to change to "soda" for the time I lived in that state, and I still find it hard to consistently say "pop" now, but a soda is what I bake with, not drink!
3. List three cities in your state/province that have odd spellings. Challenge your friends list to pronounce them correctly. For instance: Faribault, MN is pronounced FARE-uh-bo.
I'm going to do Colorado, thanks, and my three are Ouray (Yoo-ray'), Pueblo (P'yeb'-low), and Buena Vista (Byoo'-nah Viz'-tah). I have to say that my family has always pronounced the last two in the traditional way, but a lot of people with whom I went to school said them this way. So, I'll add a couple that we did say weird (I found out later): Montrose (Mon-troz') and Saguache (which is just weird: Suh-watch').
