Friday Five

(Link at left)

1. Who was your favorite teacher?
This question is really awfully hard for me. It would be easier to list those I couldn't stand: Mrs. G (soph. h.s. English), that horrible sub we had in grade school (I obliterated her name after she told me I spelled "separate" wrong, that it should be "seperate"), Mr. W (frosh. college English), Ms. R (2nd grade reading), and my Reference Skills and Information Science profs for my MLIS.... I didn't really care for the art teacher in 7th grade either. I think that's it. Amazing, eh? Mind you, I'm only listing teachers whose classes I was in, not those I passed in the halls while they were being jerks.
2. Why was that teacher so special?
Oops. I had good teachers. The ones whose names I remember because they were good took time to show interest in me as a person, were creative with assignments, were consistent in the classroom. I think part of the reason I liked so many teachers is that I have several teachers in my family, so I heard the "other side of the story" from them, and understood early on that baiting teachers would not make my life better.
3. Do you think teachers get paid enough?
The ones who suck get paid too much. By and large, however, no. I think teachers' salaries are an embarrassment. See above re family members as teachers.
4. Do you have a favorite year of school?
5th and 6th grade were good for entirely different reasons. Sophomore and junior years in high school were a blast. Junior year of college was completely awesome. I liked 1st grade too. ;-)
5. If you could travel back in time and tell yourself something now that would have helped you get through school, what would you say?
All those idiots in junior high with you? Ignore them. The cute guys? TALK TO THEM!! All of them. Smoke some of Warren's weed.
