When you have to do without…
1. Internet service, how do you react and what is the first thing you do?
I'm not a happy camper, but I usually can find some other way of killing time. There are times when I realize I'm way too connected: like sitting in the car wishing I could Google something that just popped into my head, getting irritated cuz I can't...and we're only a half-hour from being home!2. Electricity, how do you react and what is the first thing you do?
Oh, this is NOT good! When we lose power, we also lose access to water, since we're on a well. It has happened 6 or 7 times since we moved here. If it's daylight, I just go outside and read or something like that. At night, we light the lamps and candles and gather flashlights. Beast goes and gets the big water containers in case we need to use the bathroom. We had a 36-hour outage last summer, so that meant emptying the fridge. THAT sucked.3. Cell Phone or home phone service, how do you react and what is the first thing you do?
Whatever. Mine is really only for emergencies anyway. This doesn't bother me that much.4. Cable/Dish TV, how do you react and what is the first thing you do?
Read. A. Book. In the large realm of things, this is one that I absolutely do NOT stress about. At all.5. Air Conditioning/Heat, how do you react and what is the first thing you do?
In the winter, we gather blankets, start a fire, etc. In the summer, we'd just open the windows and swelter. This happens when we lose electricity, and that has only happened in the summer, so far, but in our old house, we lost heat a couple of times. We dragged Sparky's bed into our bedroom to keep all the body heat consolidated and slept fine with extra blankets (and a closed bedroom door). By morning, everything was fine. Longer than that: hotel room.
