Thursday Threesome

(Link at left)
::Heroes and Villains::

Onesome: Heroes-- from the movies? Who was your hero in a movie, TV show or book when you were growing up?
The obvious choice for me has to be Laura Ingalls Wilder (the book version, btw). And Helen Keller. Wonder Woman (the TV version) and the Bionic Woman. I can't think of anyone contemporary (or real) that I admired It was the 70s, era of disco and disengagement. Later on, Macgyver.
It's interesting to note that it took me ten minutes to think of a man who inspired me at a young age....

Twosome: and-- while we're at it: any 'new' heroes in any shows or books lately?
The brothers in Evensong and Plainsong by Kent Haruf. Several characters in The Matrix movies, including Neo and Jada's character. A few--very few!--people on Survivor and The Amazing Race--for instance, the amputee from last season's TAR, and Ian on the Survivor from last year sometime. I know that technically these aren't "characters" but they are on TV, so I'm counting them.
I guess I should name V.I. Warshawski, Kinsey Millhone, Spenser and other detectives from series mysteries that I love, too.
Threesome: Villains-- can be "bad guys" or just plain scary; which one scaried the heck out of you as a kid? (No flashbacks, please; just go for a bad guy if you'd prefer!)
Everything and everyone scared me as a kid! I do not lie--I was a huge chicken. I had to leave the room during the chariot scene in Ben Hur when it was televised, and I had nightmares after watching crime shows with my brother. The Child-Catcher in Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang terrified me. Still does, actually. {shudder}
