How many generations can you trace of your family’s heritage?
My mom got back to the 18th century on her mom's side. I think that's...six?...generations there. She was hampered on her father's side by having a relative named John Sullivan--do you know how many Sullivans there are the world?? He was rather (ahem) itinerant, too, so pinning him down was tricky. On Dad's side, I think she only managed about 3 generations or so back (from me, not Dad). There we run into the last name of Miller. Lots of Millers around too.

I know I should care about this and work on it...but I can't be bothered. I see the futility much too clearly, and the potential for finding out things one would really rather not know.
