Year End

  1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before?
Attended a bloody LOAD of meetings.
Was ordained and served as clerk of session for our church.
    Learned patience...a little.
    Learned a little more HTML.
I wish I could say I remembered not to count my chickens before they hatched...but I didn't.
  2. Did you keep your New Year's Resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't do New Year Resolutions. Why set myself up to fail like that?
  3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Two women at work had babies in the fall, and I know about a whole lot of babies due in the next few weeks. I guess, technically, my niece did, too.
  4. Did anyone close to you die?
    Well, sort of.
  5. What countries did you visit?
Stayed inside the borders of the U.S. this year, which is somewhat unusual.
  6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
A spine, and a better handle on controlling my mouth.
  7. What dates from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Early June--mission trip to D'Iberville, which was life-changing, and my niece announced her pregnancy
July 7-9--20th anniversary trip to a little cottage across the state, on the hottest weekend of the summer
September--my other niece announced her engagement
November 12--I started taking Zoloft every day
December 31--Mom will be moving to a nursing home, and Nathaniel was born and died
  8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I shouldn't take credit for this, but Sparky has settled down.
Work stuff (part of which is NOT KILLING ANYONE).
    I lost weight.
Starting to figure out the Session stuff.
  9. What was your biggest failure?
I still haven't figured out how to be upset without crying.
Getting a speeding ticket was kind of not-fun.
  10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
We were all remarkably healthy this year. A nice change from '05.
  11. What was the best thing someone bought you?
Beast's parents bought us another big chunk of Piece of Mind.
  12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
    Sparky's, for the most part.
Artcat's, as chair of the cataloging committee.
People who have taken time to volunteer with no expectation of reward.
  13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Most politicians, starting with Bush and moving on down.
Most of the people who are running the library consortium.
  14. Where did most of your money go?
Paying the mortgage, and buying food in various incarnations (mostly pre-made, or eaten at restaurants).
  15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The election in November, and a great-nephew.
  16. What song will always remind you of 2006?
    William Shatner's "Common People"
  17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
    a) happier or sadder? Overall, happier (i.e. healthier), but currently very sad.
    b) thinner or fatter? Thinner, but not by much.
    c) richer or poorer? Our bank balance is higher, and we're richer in experience and knowledge, but poorer in those same ways.
  18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
    Reading.
  19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
    Wasting time on the computer.
  20. How do you plan to spend Christmas?
That's 11 months away...or technically, we're only on Day 9 of this Christmas. I'd like to get my decorations down sometime in the next week....
  21. Did you fall in love in 2006?
Yes, and then my heart broke. Over and over.
  22. How many one night stands?
    Er, none.
  23. What was your favorite TV program?
    CSI. Had you-all noticed that?
  24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don't really hate anyone, but I'm more cynical and pissed about the big-shots involved with the changes at work.
  25. What was the best book you read?
I'll have to get back to you on that. I haven't really thought about that yet, so obviously there might not have been any stand-outs.
  26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Panic! At the Disco...their name (and their music) makes me laugh.
  27. What did you want and get?
A better attitude (so far) this winter.
  28. What did you want and not get?
    Organized.
  29. What was your favorite film of this year?
I don't think I saw any films at the theater this year....
  30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I think we went out for dinner...no, we ordered a pizza and watched football on TV. I traded so I wouldn't have to work. Oh, and this was #43.
  31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
    Less MAS.
  32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
    Jeans and T-shirts...everywhere I went.
  33. What kept you sane?
Blogging, Beast, and...well, maybe I'm not actually....
  34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I fancied no one. They all suck.
  35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Barack Obama, and the Democratic takeover of the House in November.
  36. Who do you miss?
I really miss my dad this week. I could use some words of wisdom.
  37. Who was the best new person you met?
    Mr. Jimmy, Eileen, and Ed.
  38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006?
Life isn't fair. I must be the slowest learner in the world on this issue.
  39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"Beautiful, Beautiful, beautiful, Beautiful Boy" (John Lennon)
