Booking Through Thursday

  1. Do you read short stories?
Yes, occasionally. I like them, but there aren't as many collections of them released anymore. I found out several years ago that I'm weird in this are; publishers think--and people I've asked support this belief--that short stories are not well-liked. I don't understand why.

  2. Why or why not?
When it's especially hectic in life, it's nice to be able to point to something that I've finished, even if it is 'just' a 5-page story in a collection!

  3. What do you like and dislike about short stories?
I can only think of one real downside, and that is that if the story is well-done, you want to know more about the characters. Well, and then there is the frequent fact that collections can be uneven: there'll be two or three really good stories and (hopefully no more than) the same number of lousy ones. That isn't so much of a negative though; if you don't like this story, skip to the next; you haven't missed half the plot as you would if you skipped that much in a novel!
