Booking Through Thursday

  1. We asked last week about what draws you to your favorite kind/genre of book. This week, we want to know--how often do you depart from that comfort zone? If you love mysteries, do you ever read fantasy? If you primarily read cookbooks, do you ever read a good romance?

First of all, I don't understand how to read a cookbook...(maybe that's why I don't like to cook?)

OK, I read fantasy, I read mysteries, I read some science fiction, I read "literary fiction," I read chick lit. I also read lots of different kinds of nonfiction everything from religion to science to history. What I don't read (much) is science, especially 'soft' science like economics; I will pick up a science book occasionally if it's written for people like me (science morons). I don't like arty-farty books (like pretty, expensive cookbooks and crafts), but I do like books about art. There's almost nothing I won't read unless I find it pretentious and/or boring.

    How's that for a summation? :-)

  2. How MUCH variety is there in your reading? Do you mostly stick to one type, with just the occasional toe-dip into a different style? Or do you generally read a variety of things, just, maybe more of your favorite style than anything else?

See above. Variety is good, but lately I seem to have enough variety in life, so I'm sticking to 'safe' books. If that makes sense. Sort of the equivalent of comfort food.
