Ripped from the newspaper

...by Amy, was designer Carolina Herrera's "Can't Live Without It" list from today's Chicago Tribune Magazine .

Here are Caroline's 12 Favorite Things [sans commentary]:
  1. [The] New York Post's Page Six
  2. Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen
  3. Cartier stationery: Embossed with my family crest. [I had to leave that in]
  4. Bobbi Brown's Plum Stain
  5. Green Rockingham china
  6. Fra Angelico
  7. Christofle silver
  8. Miho Kosuda Ltd.
  9. "Walk the Line"
  10. Leading men: A cocktail of George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Gary Cooper.
  11. Patricia Wexler moisturizer
  12. Nestle's Crunch
Here's Amy's list, with most of the commentary excised as well:
  1. Chicago Tribune Magazine's 'Can't Live Without' feature
  2. One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez
  3. Crane & Co. stationery
  4. Vincent Longo Lip Gel Stain Liquid Kiss [and] Bloom Lip Definer Lusciously Lined [and] Tutti Dolci Lip Gloss Sugar Wafer
  5. My two Crate & Barrel pasta bowls
  6. Mark Rothko
  7. My KitchenAid Epicurean stand mixer
  8. Inexpensive flowers from Ben Franklin (a.k.a. 'The Dime Store')
  9. My own weirdo mix CDs.
  10. Leading Men:
~ A new friend, text-message fanatic and spiritual guru who lives 88 minutes
    away, Thank God
~ A globe-trotting confidant, dinner companion and financial (and all other things) advisor whose name shall remain shrouded in mystery, and
~ The one with whom I fit, who fits to me. As Leah Stewart wrote in The Myth of You and Me: "We seemed to fit together, in a way that suggested nothing had ever quite fit before."
  11. Kiss My Face So Refined organic jojoba & mint facial [and] their Pore Shrink deep pore cleansing mask
  12. M&M's ... peanut butter and crispy.
Now, mine:

  1. Entertainment Weekly Magazine: I read this cover to cover every week. It's rare for me to skip anything besides the TV listings (I usually don't get that far till late in the week).
  2. The "Laura" books: I've read them dozens of times and will read them all again.
  3. Clean college-ruled notebook paper. This time of year rocks!
  4. Chapstick. And an occasional swipe with with Burt's Bee's Lip Shimmer in Rhubarb.
  5. Corelle in white. Plain white.
  6. Michelangelo. Anything: Sistine Chapel, Pietàs, the dome of St. Peter's....anything.
  7. My entire kitchen...I love the layout, although I'd replace the sink and countertops.
  8. Flowers from the garden, when they haven't been eaten by bugs. If that isn't possible, I'd go with flowers from the grocery store, as long as they aren't dyed completely psycho colors.
  9. Launchcast for my ADHD tendencies. I like someone new every day.
  10. Leading Men: Beast, Sparky, Buddy (ok, he's a little on the hairy end of the spectrum, but he lives with me, and he's male).
  11. Oil of Olay Age-Defying Daily Renewal Cleanser. I can't use anything but Oil of Olay or bad things happen.
  12. Smarties. Chocolate doesn't really get me going. Give me straight sugar instead.
