Only three...so far...

Summer is almost over, and with it so is summer reading. What have you read this summer, or what books are still on your summer reading list?
Dang it, I have three books sitting here begging to be entered into my reading blog, and I just haven't bothered. Check in soon, and they'll be posted. I hope....

However, the short answer is that I haven't really done much reading at all this summer, not compared to the norm. I did just finally come up on the reserve list at the library for Janet Evanovich's latest Stephanie Plum book, which I'm trying hard not to get TOO excited about for fear of a giant letdown. Still, I'm betting on at least two extended belly laughs in this one. At least.
Next month I'm going to see the King Tut exhibit at the Field's Museum in Chicago, Illinois (USA). How do you think King Tut would feel if he knew that his treasures had been dug up and were on display? Do you think it's okay that we've dug up what is essentially a grave?
We were going to do that this summer, too. Guess I'd better go to the museum's website and get some tickets PDQ before the exhibit leaves.

Anyway. This is a wonderful question! I can't believe I never have thought about this, with all my compulsive reading about the pharaonic tombs, etc. (Speaking of which, in line with the previous question, if you like ancient Egypt + mysteries, you should read the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters. They are a riot.)

Oops, sidetracked again... I love archaeology, so I don't see anything wrong with digging up a grave, since it doesn't interfere with my beliefs anyway. Hmmm, but that's pretty snotty, since it DOES after all interfere with Tut's beliefs. But... wasn't he supposed to have made it to the Other Side by now? So, since he didn't, does that make it ok? Or did he, and the religious leaders just goofed up some of the details? Oh, I don't know. I just find it so fascinating to learn about cultures so different from ours.

And I am glad that Egypt is able to keep some of these treasures in country. Now, when are we going to repatriate the Elgin (so-called) Marbles back to Athens?? :-)
What is your favorite Duran Duran song? (you do know who Duran Duran is, right?????)
YES, I know who they are (were?)! I was never that into them, though; they were just a little too pretty for me. I like to watch their videos though--"Hungry Like the Wolf" and the one with the sailboat--and laugh. Posers. [sorry to any fans] It's really just about that whole mid-80s aura of ... whatever it was with the makeup and the hair and the 'look.' Thank God we're over it.
