Sunday Seven

Episode 48

Name seven things you have done or would be willing to do to reduce your contributions to global warming.
  1. I've been recycling whatever I can (plastic, paper, metal, glass) for at least the past 20 years. I just wish the market would open up for more second-use products.
  2. I rarely drive one place for one thing: most of my trips somewhere are at least dual-purpose.
  3. We keep the temp low in the house in the winter and put on more sweaters. The house is very air-tight with good windows and doors (i.e., non-leaking) and energy efficient layers in the double-pane glass. We have porches on two sides and only 3 rooms ever get direct sunlight, which helps keep the house a little cooler in the summer.
  4. I've already cast my vote with Beast that when we look at buying our next car, we will at least give the electric/high gas-mileage cars more of a look than we normally do.
  5. I consistently try to reuse almost everything I possibly can: plastic bags, clothes, boxes...although I have given up on reusing wrapping paper.
  6. We primarily use cold water for laundry. If it weren't for my allergies, I'd be willing to hang out most of our clothes as well, at least in the warmer months. However, as it stands, I'd rather not be hospitalized, so we use the dryer.
  7. All of our appliances are among the most energy-efficient available. And we're careful to use them properly and service them appropriately (although I really need to pull out the fridge and clean the coils one of these days!).
Trust me: we're cheap. We save everything in order to save money, which right now has the added benefit of saving the environment. Global warming is no joke, and it is something to be alarmed about, in spite of what Our Illustrious Leader tells us.
