Friday Five

Play With Me

1. When you were a child, what was your favorite game to play?
First response: I jumped rope rather excessively. Like, I could do the Cinderella rhyme and get up to 70+ kisses. [if you never jumped rope: this has nothing to do with a precocious sex life]
Second: I played an awful lot of jacks, for hours. We had a good front porch--smooth concrete, not bumpy at all (quite scary to walk on when wet)--and great tile in the basement: both perfect for jacks.
Third: Later, in my teenage years, I became quite the solitaire player. I still know at least 6 entirely different versions. I probably went through 10 decks of cards in high school.
2. What is your favorite game to play right now?
I'm seriously compulsive about "The Sims." And "Civilization" can get me hooked. I also like board games (Monopoly, Life) and Trivial Pursuit. Though no one will play the latter with me anymore....sigh.
3. Can you share a good story about playing with others or yourself?
In case it's not obvious, there were not a lot of kids in my neighborhood growing up. Like...uhm...'transient' kids: there visiting grandparents, or renting a house for a year or so, or not the kind of kids my parents (and I) wanted around [i.e. bullies].
One year, there was a boy living in a rental house across the street on the end of my block. We played Frisbee across the street--copying my brother and his friend--annoying a lot of drivers. Then they moved. I do remember that his name was Tommy.
4. What do you do for play time fun now?
Blogger. Pogo. Yahoo Games. And the GameCube is growing on me...
5. If you were able to invent a game, what would you call it?
Is there some way to involved sleeping in a game?
Or, even better, sleeping in the sunshine? That could probably be called "Sunburn" I suppose...
