Five on Friday

Cinco de Mayo

1. Can you explain the significance of Cinco de Mayo?
Growing up, we always called it Mexican Independence Day, but actually I don't even know if that's true. It's not: I just checked Wikipedia and it says: "...a national celebration in Mexico and widely celebrated in many parts of the United States. It commemorates the victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza over the French expeditionary forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.

"It is a common misconception that Cinco de Mayo is Mexico's Independence Day."

2. Do you speak Spanish? How well?
Sí, hablo español. Pero, lo leo mucho mejor que lo hablo, sin embargo. ¡Esto es lo que hace un menor de edad español en universidad para usted!

3. Have you ever been to Mexico?
This is getting old. I'm going to start making shit up.
The answer is yes.

4. If you could commemorate one of the "battles" in your own life, which would it be and why? How would you celebrate?
I already commemmorate the day I broke free of The Job from Hell on D-Day: June 6. I celebrate it by being sane and happy.

5. What is your favorite way to enjoy tequila?
Wow, I haven't had tequila in eons. Probably a t. sunrise; bring back some memories. I don't actually like it much, however. Too strong.
