If Jesus was Born Today, Would He be Treated Any Better?

I'd hazard a guess that he'd actually be treated worse. Some of his message makes for perfect sound bites, and for out-of-context quote. I think he'd be noticed by the Establishment much faster.

On the other hand, if he were to appear in America it would be a very different context than in 1st-century BCE Judea, ruled by the Romans. Appearing in America would be like him appearing in Rome instead of Jerusalem, in some ways. I'm not sure he would appear here in the "first world." How about Iraq instead? Or Sudan? Someplace that's being run by Distant Someones who don't really care about the people, just about resources.

I do think--I'd say know, but what do I know?--if he even made it to our conciousness here in America, he'd be dismissed out of hand as a lunatic, or ignored for ditto. He'd be seen as entertaining perhaps, until he pissed off both sides of the political spectrum. And I think, yeah, he'd end up gunned down or imprisoned.

People don't do well with being faced with truth and their own inadequacies and hypocrisy.
