1001. What has caused you to reinvent yourself or reevaluate who you are?
Having the worst relationship with a boss of my career has been ...edifying. Having this happen in the midst of all sorts of personal/marital issues that the boss knew about was disappointing and eye-opening. I'm a better person, but it's been, and continues to be, a challenge. I'm learning a lot though.
1002. Name three annoying bands:
Those Pussycat people, on principle, Mariah Carey (ok, technically not a band, but definitely annoying!), and Insane Clown Posse (and their fans!).
1003. Have you ever been to a foam party (a big dance floor full of soap foam that people dance in at a club)? If yes did you get into the foam?
No, thank you very much. This to me is hell.
1004. Who do you take for granted? Who makes you feel taken for granted?
I take for granted most everyone around me who isn't actively pissing me off at the moment. This is ridiculous; I should pay so much more attention to those people I love and less to the idiots.
There are some patrons who seem to think we librarians are idiots. Or worse. This is annoying, as I know quite well that we all bend over backwards for people.
1005. Short, knee, or ankle skirts?
I've reached the age of "somewhere south of the knees, the further the better" but I also never wear skirts.
1006. Do you wear a hat?
Only in hot sun or very cold weather.
1007. Did you watch Sifl and Ollie on MTV?
Nope.
How about Liquid Television?
I might have caught this a couple of times.
The Maxx?
Nope.
1008. What do you like that is NOT part of pop culture?
C.W. McCall.
1009. What music makes you feel:
Sexy? Bruno Mars and/or John Legend and/or Marvin Gaye and/or Paul Young.
Passionate? U2. Some Steven Curtis Chapman and Newsboys songs.
Violent? I don't intentionally listen to music that makes me feel violent very often, but there are some songs about hating people that I listen to when I'm already angry.
Romantic? Hmmm, Paul Young again, some Rod Stewart (no, not THAT one!), Roberta Flack.
Sad? Nina Simone, some U2, several songs from "Fiddler on the Roof"
Happy/joyous? Gospel music, The Black-Eyed Peas, Spice Girls, some Beatles stuff.
Ecstasy? I'm fairly certain this would involve a lot of classical music. Maybe some Queen, or Mirian Makeba or Fatboy Slim.
1010. Who's your favorite cartoon character?
Mighty Mouse!
1011. Does break dancing impress you?
If something is done well, I am impressed, assuming I understand it. So, yes.
1012. Are you a smooth operator?
Hah. No, really just hah!
1013. Would you rather be a police officer or a criminal?
Right now, I'd like to plead the Fifth on this. In general, I'm more interested in being a good guy than breaking the law.
1014. Do you believe that government decisions should be made based more on economics or more on social reform?
I think the argument has been made that they are often much the same thing. If people are treated justly, that can only help the economy.
But what do I know? I'm not a "businessman" who has thrown away more money than the economies of several small countries.
1015. Why do 'they' spend money to sterilize needles that are going to be used to give lethal injections?
So we should intentionally keep used needles JUST for lethal injections? Or what? I mean, most needles are sold sterile, so why waste time (and money) desterilizing them? This question actually pisses me off.
1016. This summer have you...
Been to the beach? Nope.
Been to the movies? Yes, I think.
Played mini golf? Nope.
Gone for a walk? Yes.
1017. Would you rather lay in bed all night talking or have sex all night long?
Is there some rule about not being able to do both?
1018. Have you ever eaten tofu?
Probably.
1019. Who needs a brain?
Several swathes of the American public, judging by polls.
1020. Who needs a heart?
The Republican Party. Or, to name an individual, Pat Robertson.
1021. Does the moon have an affect on your mood?
Nope. I do notice an uptick in Teh Weerd at work during full moons, but it might be self-fulfilling.
1022. Do you feel pressure on Friday and Saturday to have fun, go out and party?
Not since I was about...actually...never.
1023. Many people will say that the Harry Potter books are pure fluff with no literary value. Do you agree?
No, I do not. I also do not think they are the best literature ever in the history of mankind.
1024. Is Harry Potter comparable to The Chronicles of Narnia and the Lord of the Rings?
Everything is comparable to everything else. I think it's better in MANY ways than Narnia and probably less literary than LotR.
1025. What are you doing next Wednesday?
Breakfast Bible Study, then errands, then home to shower, then work 12-9.
1026. Why do so many people think Elvis is still alive?
Because they are idiots. See #1019.
1027. What couldn't you live your life without?
Medication. Moreso right now: the headache that has been hanging out there all day just returned in force to my sinuses.
1028. Are your hands cold?
Nope.
1029. Is your heart warm?
Yes, generally.
1030. Palm trees or snow storms?
There's no way I can say I prefer snow over palm trees.
1031. What bands would be great if only the singing was edited out?
Rush. Sorry, but Lee's voice has the same effect on me as chewing aluminum foil. I love the MUSIC and the people, but his voice...ugh.
1032. What fantasy book would you like to see made into a movie?
I'm not much of a fantasy reader, so I'm pleading the Fifth on this too.
1033. Do you avoid risks and if possible stay at home?
In the past 36 hours, I've cut my thumb with a kitchen knife, kicked a baseboard with my heel so hard I nearly threw up from the shock/pain, and gotten stabbed with an insulin injector (not mine). All at home. I have bruises up and down my legs that I can't explain. Basically, I can get injured anywhere, so I might as well just go out into the world.
1034. What SCI-fi books do you read?
I don't read many. The "hard science" ones are boring to me, and often quite lacking in female characters of substance.
1035. Would you be on that Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire show as a contestant?
I'd prefer to be on a show like this as the Millionaire; so the chances of this happening, like ever!, are nil.
1036. Who's the best secret keeper you know?
Beast.
1037. What is your favorite myth?
I like the ones where Hera/Juno gets pissed and starts knocking people off for being involved in her husband's infidelities.
1038. Is it easier to live when you're evil?
I wouldn't know, and I would guess not.
1039. Have you ever belonged to a sorority or a fraternity?
I'm actually a member of P.E.O. now.
1040. Would you want to join one?
Not during college, not at all!
1041. If your friend were doing dangerous drugs would you tell their parents?
Not before I told her (him) that I was worried and that I was going to tell. And I'd tell anyone who'd listen: teachers, administrators, parents (hers, mine, someone else's), doctors...
And by the way, I don't include pot in the pantheon of "dangerous" drugs, but I'd probably still mention that isn't such a great idea if they're under 20ish.
1042. Would you rather be a unicorn, mermaid/man, or a sorceress/er?
Sorceror of course. Actually, what I'd like to be is a centaur.
1043. Are leather pants sexy?
They have always sounded really unpleasant to wear: hot and sweaty.
On you?
I don't think "sexy" is in my wardrobe vocabulary anywhere.
1044. Did you tell someone you love him or her today?
Yes. I did.
1045. Have you ever given blood?
Not for awhile. They don't really like my blood anymore. But I used to be semi-regular.
1046. Have you ever been thrown out of someplace?
I haven't been thrown out, but I have been denied entrance to a bar. Because I was wearing Harley gear. This was a bar in MILWAUKEE, where the engines for Harleys are made. Still ticked about that.
1047. What do you daydream about?
Childhood haunts, puzzles/problems that need solving, what friends and family are up to at that moment, dogs, sleep....
1048. Are you a miracle?
A bit of one for a couple of reasons. I'm definitely a 'surprise' baby (or an 'oops') and there's reason to believe that had one parent had the only vote, I might not be here. And then there's also all the stuff that I shouldn't have survived....
1049. If America is one nation under God then are atheists citizens?
Oh brother. Of course they are. A) You don't have to BELIEVE in something to make it true. B) There's no religious test to become a citizen here. C) I'm a Christian who refuses to say "under God" during the pledge on principle.
1050. Should they be?
People who ask, and believe, questions like this seriously might want to read the Constitution.
1051. If you could pick any rock star to replace the Osbournes in their reality show, whom would you pick?
Well, see, I think they've been removed from TV, so...no one.
1052. What are your feelings about Mel Gibson's movie The Passion of Christ?
Whatever. I haven't seen it. I got the whole idea of the pain and horror of crucifixion all figured out without having to witness the Hollywood Horror version. But if others want to, it's fine by me.
I'm done. Tired 8:50 p.m.
Back again, finally, 11/16 3:22 p.m.
1053. What did you think about the last episode of Sex in the City?
Uhm...wow. I have no idea what it was, since that was a decade ago or so!
1054. What is your favorite movie with Adam Sandler in it?
OK, because I (occasionally) try to play fair, and despite the fact that Adam Sandler is an idiot, I went and looked up his career on IMdB and I can say with gusto that I have never seen a single movie he's been in! And that's not accidental.
1055. What is your biggest problem?
I'm currently being taught a big lesson about trusting that the future will be OK. Mostly I'm handling all the hundreds of things that are up in the air well, but I do have my moments of absolute, total panic.
1056. Have you ever been arrested?
I have not.
1057. Can musicians be held responsible for influencing people to behave badly?
Sure. They ARE an influence.
Having said that, they are not CAUSING bad behavior. People have choices in their own behavior.
1058. Do you believe that there are subliminal messages embedded in some TV shows, movies & music?
Hello, 1973, your fad is showing....
Of course there are hidden messages in everything, although there's also a lot of coincidence and people with dirty minds "interpreting" those hidden messages. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of subliminal stuff is accidental.
1059. Is there anything that you believe should be banned for any reason?
Tanning booths. Hairspray. Meanness. Meth.
1060. How often do you eat too much?
Oh, only 4-5 days a week. Or so.
1061. Have you ever descended into pure madness?
I don't think so. There've been some pretty freaky moments post-hospitalization, but I don't think it was madness as much as it was drugs.
1062. Would you want to?
Uh NO!
1063. Do green m&m's make you feel sexy?
This question makes me giggle. And no.
1064. If you died tomorrow, what mark would you have left on the world?
I hope the people I care about would know how much I love them.
1065. What movie would you NEVER want to see?
I can go to my grave without seeing Adam Sandler in anything. And horror movies are not likely either.
1066. What annoys you the most about yourself?
My big freakin' mouth!
1067. How do you feel about capitalism?
I'm generally in favor of it, with some controls.
1068. How do you feel about socialism?
I think it's a terrible idea. To anyone who knows anything about human behavior it's ridiculous to think that jealousy and greed are going to simply stop being a factor between people.
1069. How do you feel about communism?
I think it's a great concept, and in small groups for short periods and with very clear communication and goals, it does work. But see previous answer.
1070. Has anyone ever tried to injure you?
With ill-intent? I don't think so--they haven't managed to be obvious about it. I'm actually better at injuring myself.
1071. Has anyone ever tried to kill you?
Again, not intentionally. And not personally. There are some crazy-ass idiots driving out there on the roads though.
1072. How do you know when it's time to break up with someone?
There are a lot of reasons to break up with someone. It's pretty variable. And what is a dealbreaker for me might not be for you.
However, if that someone is abusing you, get the fuck out!
1073. What is your opinion of the Janet Jackson/Justin Timberlake Super Bowl exposure incident?
I thought then and I think now it was ridiculous. It was a stupid thing to try to choreograph, but certainly not outside of the norm if it had worked. I think Janet taking the majority of the heat for it was wrong, but she's certainly managed to recover.
1074. What's the most annoying sound?
Mic feedback. Whining.
1075. Who was your childhood hero?
Pretty much my parents and older family members. It didn't really occur to me to expect others to be heroic.
Although, maybe Cher.... (on the Sonny & Cher show) ...
1076. With nearly 100 channels why is NOTHING ever on?
There's just so much that is there that I'm not interested in: cooking, fashion, "reality" shows, stupid sitcoms, horror, baseball/hockey/basketball, p0rn, fishing, talking heads, bad historical presentations....
1077. Would you adopt a stray kitty wandering through your neighborhood?
Nope. Allergies. Also, there are enough dogs in this neighborhood that a cat wandering around wouldn't last too long.
1078. Describe what you look like:
I'm 52, graying, overweight, and tired. Hazel eyes, dark hair (where it's not white), tallish, with glasses. I essentially look like everyone's next-door neighbor, or a checker at your grocery store, or your kid's former teacher, or your sister-in-law's best friend's cousin....
1079. Describe what you ARE like:
Noisy, questioning, funny, intense (supposedly), passive-aggressive, perfectionist-with-limits, Caucasian.
1080. What bad habit do you have that affects other people as much as it affects you?
Argumentativeness.
1081. How did you party New Year's Eve 1999?
We were at home watching all the celebrations across the globe. Sparky did his best trying to stay awake till midnight, but he crashed hard around 11 in the papasan chair in the living room. I have photographic evidence.
1082. Does second hand smoke bother you?
YES! For the love of God, people, smoke stinks!
1083. Have you ever:
Dumped a drink over someone's head? Not on purpose. Sparky had a daiquiri dumped on him while we were on vacation once when a waitress lost her balance. But no, not me.
Dumped a drink over your own head? What the...? No. I have poured a bucket of water over my head a few times.
Bit someone? Not since I was a kid.
Torn at someone's clothes? I can think of some reasons why I would have done this, but I don't remember if I actually have done it.
Made out in the bathroom? Not a public restroom.
1084. Which Lord of the Rings movie has the best ending?
I wouldn't know.
1085. Do you have any interesting scars?
I have a few that I'm not sure where they came from. And some kind of fun surgical scars. I like my Frankenstein scar on my throat especially.
1086. Is it better for people to change and evolve their ideas or always be consistent?
It's important to stand by what you believe in. So if you believe that kids should be help accountable for their mistakes, you absolutely canNOT show up at school bailing them out and generally being a douche on a regular basis.
1087. Warped Tour, Lollapalooza or Area concert?
Stay home and give myself a pedicure FTW! [I don't even know what that last thing is, or was.]
1088. What are you missing in your life?
Certainty.
1089. Do you ever know when someone is thinking about you?
Sometimes.
1090. What could you make a sculpture out of that's in the room with you right now?
I don't know if I understand this question. Am I using the stuff in this room to make a sculpture, or making a sculpture of something in this room? I could probably make a candle similar to those in the room. Otherwise, I'm not much of a sculptor.
1091. Do you believe in the lost city of Atlantis?
Not really, no.
1092. Have you ever read The Little Prince?
Of course I have!
1093. This is Mr. Fish <>< What's the best picture you can make on your keyboard?
Shoot . Me . Please .
1094. What did Mr. Octopus say to Mrs. Octopus?
I don't know; I don't speak Octopus.
1095. Let's see if I'm psychic. Write a yes or no question here.
Do you like dogs?
1096. Write another yes or no question.
Have you eaten a graham cracker this week?
1097. Think of just one more yes or no question.
Are your feet cold?
1098. Type one question that can be answered with a color (example: what color is my car)
What color was your high school graduation gown?
1099. Think of a number between one and one hundred & type it down.
37
1100. Write one more question, anything you want.
Why am I doing this?
I guess we'll find out about the psychic skills in the next set of questions. Stay tuned!
