In need of some...
Monday Madness
1. What time is it right now? On the PC it's 8:47 a.m. My watch says 8:50, as does the phone.
2. What are you usually doing at this time on any given day? If it's a work day, I've been at work almost an hour, hopefully having cleared my desk of any weirdness that accumulated while I was gone. Otherwise, it could be anything: reading, blogging, showering, running errands, making bread....
3. Is there a day of the week that time seems to fly by faster than the other days? Mondays. Because it's my one day off work, guaranteed, every week.
4. If you could make ONE hour of each day twice as long, which hour of the day would you choose? I am assuming it would be twice as long, but wouldn't make me twice as tired? I guess I'll pick some hour in the evening, 7-8 or 8-9.
5. If you could make one DAY of the week twice as long, which day would you choose? Monday. See above.
6. If you could make one hour and/or one day HALF as long, which time of the day, and which day of the week would you choose? Hour: the hour after I first arrive at work, when I'm usually dealing with leftover junk from yesterday and trying to see the shap my day will be taking. Day: Fridays, the Fridays when I'm at work. They just seem really long.
7. Do you agree with the following statement? "The older you get, the faster time goes by." Yup. Two many instances to choose from, so I'll just say that we couldn't remember last night if our godson's First Communion was two years ago or three. We sounded like old people in this discussion.... Someone once tried to explain a scientific cause/formula of this to me; I was 17 so I didn't really get it.
8. What do you usually do during your "down time?" Read. Blog. Sleep. Crosswords. Watch TLC or E! or MTV. [In order, more or less.]
9. What one thing do you spend more time doing each day than anything else? Blogging. OK, seriously, I suspect it's probably reading, for pleasure or for work/learning/information.

Right- or Left-Brained?
| You Are 35% Left Brained, 65% Right Brained |
The left side of your brain controls verbal ability, attention to detail, and reasoning. Left brained people are good at communication and persuading others. If you're left brained, you are likely good at math and logic. Your left brain prefers dogs, reading, and quiet. The right side of your brain is all about creativity and flexibility. Daring and intuitive, right brained people see the world in their unique way. If you're right brained, you likely have a talent for creative writing and art. Your right brain prefers day dreaming, philosophy, and sports. |
I find this absolutely amazing. I don't think I'm nearly this right-brained. Hmmm.

You Are In a Decent Mood |
You aren't turning cartwheels, but you're having a pretty good day. Some ups, some downs, but overall you're coming out ahead. And who knows? Tomorrow could be even better! |
Pretty accurate tonight.

I'm not sure if cloudy sky or L.A. smog is a worse color, although I guess I'd rather breathe the air in the former!

My 60s self
You are a Folkie. Good for you.
What kind of Sixties Person are you?
brought to you by Quizilla
Indeed, good for me.
Ways people find me
As I've said elsewhere, people are weird:
- "how to put chains on tires" (Good use of quotes, bad choice in sites)
- jeep "how to put chains" (Jeez, get a life—the car doesn’t matter, it’s the tires that matter. And jeeps, jeezjeezjeez….really, get a life)
- "susan horn" deaf (huh? Oh, because I used deaf, and because of a Narnia book in which they mention “Susan’s horn.” Weird, Google, very weird)
- hulk "bruce bixby" (And of the choices given, all four of them, you choose my blog. OK.)
- pronounce memes (Like “dreams.” Hence the title of this blog)
- blog memes (Yep, you found one)
- memes bikini store (heh heh heh)
- librarian wisconsin boston blog knitting (hmmm: yep, nope, nope, yep, nope)
- naturalcures.com (OK, I go there ONCE and see what happens??)
- blog memes and prompts (hey! Hurrah--you found me!)

Onesome: Sweet Potato-- Sweet potatoes always remind me of Thanksgiving which brings me to food...what is your all time favorite holiday food that you wish you'd get a chance to eat at other times?
First of all, I don't really like sweet potatoes very much. So, clearly, that's not my choice! ;-)Twosome: Queens'-- Do you follow what Prince Charles and others are up to? What do you think about the Queen not going to the wedding?
No my answer would be beef fondue. We have it every New Year's Eve: beef, mushrooms, onions, dips, chips, veggies and a pot of hot oil. Yum.
Threesome: Field Guide to Men-- When it comes to the opposite sex, do you feel you have a grasp on 'em - or do they continue to just surprise you?Uhm, I'm vaguely aware that Chuck's getting married again. I think he's a scum, not to mention an idiot. The Queen's not going? Aren't they having to use a registry office? Can you imagine the pandemonium if she showed up with them?
Oy.
Who cares, really? He's totally messed up* the whole British Monarchy with his decades-long stupidity over Camilla.
I never have a clue. I can make informed guesses, but boys continue to amaze me, sometimes because of their incredible lack of awareness. I love 'em, but jeez!A quick aside: if anyone hasn't browsed through this book, do. It's a stitch.
[Of course, I would fully expect the same point of view in return from the Beast, about me....]

20 questions
...from Shelly, whom I'm beginning to think I should pay for giving me all these good ones! :-)
1. What is the furthest you've ever travelled? In one step, probably Omsk to Irkutsk, or Denver to London. As a full trip, Chicago to Beijing via Moscow and several points in between, and back.
2. Which meal is the one you cook best? Home-made mac n cheese. With my mom's recipe, or my sister's 'gourmet' one (with 4 kinds of cheese). I do a pretty good Thanksgiving feast too, and beef fondue.
3. Where do you buy most of your clothes? It's not so much 'where' as 'when:' on sale. I like Coldwater Creek and Kohl's.
4. What is your home town famous for? My hometown is famous for Rocky Mountain Oysters. ;-)
My current workplace (which is not where I live) is famous for a woodchuck movie. And for Dick Tracy.
5. What was your best subject at school? Social Studies/History. English. I was a pretty good student, only doing less well in science than in other subjects.
6. What sort of music would you never listen to? Like Shelly I can pass on the current crop of hiphop 'artists' and I'm not overly fond of opera (although surprisingly, that's starting to change). Also I don't like Mariah Carey's oeuvre, or Rush. Anything else I'll at least give a try.
7. Is there anything you would never eat?
Caviar.
Bugs.
Beef tartare.
Food that is too spicy. Sad but true; I'd probably be fine eating it, but it wreaks havoc with my digestion.
8. How many languages can you speak? I'm laughing at Shelly's: "I barely speak English (that's a joke)." So yeah, I'm occasionally coherent in English and have a minor in Spanish. I can read some Russian and can struggle through translating some German and French and Italian, but I don't think that counts.
9. Which sport do you like playing or watching the most?
I like to play volleyball and tennis (although I'm so out of shape it would probably be painful to watch (and do).
I LOVE watching football. Baseball? boooo....
10. Can you play a musical instrument? Which one(s)? Played flute for 8 years (jr. hi till college) and took piano lessons for a few years as a child.
11. What is the worst illness/injury you've ever had?
Illness: I had "walking pneumonia" as a child (in 1975ish, because Ford was president...don't ask).
Injury: none, except for surgery and childbirth in the '90s.
12. Which blogging tool do you prefer? Blogger
13. What was the last charity you gave to? My church. Food for the Hungry. Heifer Project. Depends on when the bills were paid....
14. How many romantic relationships have you had? Wow, this is a loaded question. Relationships--depends on your definition... I'd say three.
15. Where was the last restaurant you visited? Ate at Chilis with Sparky on Monday night.
16. Have you ever seen a band live? Which one? Yes, jeez, even I'm not that out of it! Last one was Elton John/Billy Joel last year (two years ago??). I'm going to U2 this spring.
17. Which famous person would you like to meet? Why?
This changes daily. To shake hands with: Hillary Clinton. To talk to: Sandra Bullock, or Gloria Steinem.
Why? For inspiration.
18. Have you ever been on television? When I marched in the Tournament of Roses parade, although it wasn't exactly a close-up. Otherwise, I stay far from TV cameras.
19. Have you ever stayed overnight in hospital? Yes. One visit was for childbirth, the other for surgery.
20. What is your ultimate ambition?
Travel, travel, travel; see everything.
Be a good grandma.
Be the person I was meant to be.

Two-fer
This plus the Blog Threat Level (top left) are thanks to Shelly, my new source for all things fun! :-)

You are 'Gregg shorthand'. Originally designed to
enable people to write faster, it is also very
useful for writing things which one does not
want other people to read, inasmuch as almost
no one knows shorthand any more.
You know how important it is to do things
efficiently and on time. You also value your
privacy, and (unlike some people) you do not
pretend to be friends with just everyone; that
would be ridiculous. When you do make friends,
you take them seriously, and faithfully keep
what they confide in you to yourself.
Unfortunately, the work which you do (which is
very important, of course) sometimes keeps you
away from social activities, and you are often
lonely. Your problem is that Gregg shorthand
has been obsolete for a long time.

SHOES!
From the Ranter
Except for the tiny detail of this being a really ugly shoe, I guess I agree.
You scored as Sensible Flats. You are Sensible Flats. Practical and comfort-oriented, you'd rather go through life without the pain of a pulled arch. Still, you might want to walk on the wild side a litte more.

Where I came from
Cool stuff, from Shelly.
My hometown:
The red pin is more or less in front of my house. My elementary school is to the left about 4 blocks. My junior high is to the 'northeast' 2 by 2 blocks. My high school is where the track is at the right. See why my parents built the house where they did??
My house:
It's actually the fourth from the corner on the left side of the street. The trees in the backyard were planted in the 50s and that's where all our family pictures were taken, with one or the other in the background.
sigh

Onesome: Mountains-- What is the elevation where you live? Do you like it there or would you prefer something a little different?
I think I'm pretty much at sea level. Yup, just checked: we are 942 feet above sea level. It's not a big deal in this part of the country. Where I grew up, the city limit signs all have the elevation listed along with the name and population of the city.Twosome: Valleys-- When you travel, do you have any particular valley or area you like to pass through on the way from here to there? ...and is there any route you'll take just for the scenery even if it's just a tad longer or more out of the way?
In case you've missed it before, I'll say it again: I really would love to move back 'home.' But I also would like my husband to have a job, which he would have difficulty doing in Colorado.
Funny this should come up this week. I drive along Kis... Valley Road to get to cataloging meetings, etc.; it just dawned on me that it's a honking wide flat valley--about 30 miles every direction. To me, that's a plain, not a valley.Threesome: and Streams-- Do you have a stream you like to walk along and just think and enjoy the view? How about a netaphorical one if you don't have a real one close by?
I do like the drive to Galena; there are lots of hills and valleys in that area.
My favorite valley, though, is the Uncompahgre River Valley. I've hiked a lot of it.

Accident Proneness
from Queendom
The Accident Proneness: Results
The tendency to take dangerous risks is a function of many different elements. These can include personality traits, attitudes and behavioral tendencies. The scales that contribute to your accident proneness score are Sensation seeking, Harm avoidance, Conscientiousness, Attitude towards safety rules, Attentiveness, the Challenger scale, Responsibility, and Past accidents. Each of these elements will be addressed in your full results.
In addition, the results provide information about specific concerns that might lead you to take dangerous risks. These red and yellow flags are intended to help you become more aware of the areas in which you are most likely to take unnecessary chances.
Your score = 26
Interpretation
According to the behavioral, attitudinal and personality scales on this test, you seem to walk on the cautious side, rather than the wild side, when it comes to taking risks. You are not completely paralyzed by risk - but you don't actively seek it out either.

oy, my achin' neck!
1. i've had a horrific neckache for the past week. it's been affecting my sleep and mobility. i do NOT want to have to go to the doctor, but i might have to. is something 'bothering' you that is non-emergent, but you might want to head to the doctor to get it checked out?

I just went to the dr. a couple of weeks ago for a physical. Everything's fine, but I have to have a couple of tests in the next few weeks. Otherwise just the usual shoulder/back aches. And the clicking knee.2. i have never had a cavity, and i also don't go to the dentist but once every few years (i'm a great flosser!) do you go to the dentist every 6 mos. like you should?
Yes. Because I have my mom's teeth, unfortunately: lots of fillings and two crowns. But my gums are in fantastic shape...so far.3. i've only been hospitalised twice - for the births of both of my daughters. have you been to the hospital overnight before? what was it for?
Spent an unheard of FIVE nights in the hospital when my son was born. Rough delivery, plus Sparky was suspected of having meningitis. The test failed; he was adjudged healthy after 4 days. I didn't want to leave, even then. I had abdominal surgery in 1997 and was in the hospital FOUR nights.4. i had my tonsils removed at the age of 24 ... i'm a late bloomer. do you still have yours? if not, how old were you when they were removed?
I don't remember having them out, so I guess I still have them. The threat to have them out was very real, though: I got strep a lot as a child, and after 4 or 5 winters, my doctor started making noise about surgery. Luckily, I managed to stay healthy after that!5. i have been considering LASIK surgery. i'm nearsighted, and my vision is 3.75 in my left and 4.00 in my right ... not horrible, BUT i can't see anything clearly past my wrist. have you had LASIK or know anyone who has had it? if so, would you recommend it?
Two friends have had LASIK in the past month. They both are thrilled. Ain't nobody cutting on my eyes, though. Ish, ick, yuck. I'd rather have anything else done.6. i had a horrific migraine last friday. do you get migraines? if so, how often? if not, does someone close to you get them?
Yes, they suck. I only get them about twice, maybe three times a year, thank goodness. I just put my head under a pillow and try to sleep it off.7. i saw a primetime special on 'john of god' in brasil the other night. he claims to channel 30 dead doctors and heal people via 'spiritual surgery' or real cutting on them. hundreds of people flock to his place three days per week. do you believe in spiritual healers like john of God? why or why not?
No. Quack quack quack. I do believe in laying on of hands, but I don't think it's controllable or dependable. There is a certain healing power of touch, but that's as far as I'm willing to go. Why don't I believe? Because my grandma did and messed up her health and her finances in a major way.8. i have had my oldest child ask me about the various erectile dysfunction commercials widely broadcast on TV lately. it's hard for me to come up with an answer to, "mom, what does ED mean?" or "mom, what does 'the little blue pill' do for that woman?" the feminine hygiene or jock itch commericals i have no problem with ... BUT when it comes to sexual functions, i don't think that my daughters really need to know about erectile quality at the age of 6 or 7 yrs. do you think viagra/cialis commercials should be run where younger children can ask questions about them?
My 12-year-old son blithely ignores them, as he does much of the 'embarrassing stuff' he's seen/heard. He's really pretty clueless. But I guess if he'd asked, in first or second grade, I'd've said it's a grownup problem that you don't need to worry about for many many years. If pressed, I'd even be ok with saying the pills help fix a problem some husbands/wives have showing their spouses how much they love them.Good questions!
I find the commercials lame and laughable and would prefer not to be exposed myself to them!
A day late
Four for Friday
Q1: Do you drive the same roads to work every morning, or do you mix it up? How about the drive home from work...do you typically take the same route home as you did in the morning, only in reverse? If you don't drive to work, or if you don't drive, how about this one... Assuming you shop for groceries, do you typically take the same route thru the grocery store every time you go grocery shopping, i.e. do you travel up and down the store's isles in a certain pattern?

I hate, loathe even, being in a rut. The problem is that there is really only one sensible way to get from home to work. Given an alternative, I would take it, but there isn't much of one.Q2: Has a newspaper or television reporter ever interviewed you? If so, what were the circumstances and what did you think when you read or saw what you said?
As for groceries, I go directly to the shelves where I get only what is on my list. Very little browsing at the grocery store, so no real pattern. However, I do follow the same path every time I go to Sam's Club, because I always buy the same 8-10 things there.
No. Thank God. I have no interest in squandering my 15 minutes of fame this way.Q3: Are there any causes that are important enough to you that you'd be willing to take three days off from work without pay in order to join an out-of-town protest march or sit-in? If so, what's the cause?
I'm considering doing just this sort of thing in the next few years because of the whole political climate right now. Bush & Co. need to understand that they don't rule the universe. And they are certainly Not The Boss of Me! ;-)Q4: If you were forced to eat the same three items of food for dinner every night for three weeks straight, what would you eat?
Cheese on a mishmosh bagel and a fresh apple. I can't think of anything else.
Passion
Your Passion is Purple |
Sophisticated and classy, you're a bit picky about sex. You're more likely to be turned on by a fancy hotel room than a dirty flick. Sex is fine enough, as long as it doesn't mess up your hair. For you, sex is more about power and favors than actually pleasure. |
Yep, me and Prince: queen and king of purple. I'm good with this until that last line, which couldn't possibly be further from the truth.

Magic Stick
from Jenica
1) Total amount of music files on your computer:
Zero. Because I'm that technologically clued-out.
2) The last CD you bought was:
Switchfoot's The Beautiful Letdown (recommended by the BN lady) and a birthday CD for my godson. I haven't listened to it yet....
3) What is the song you last listened to before reading this message?
Undoubtedly something horrible on the local station this morning while waking up. I only listen for school closings and immediately delete any music. So, sorry, don't remember.
Last song I remember was "Revival" (Robin Marks), yesterday in the car on the way to work.
4) Write down 5 songs you often listen to or that mean a lot to you:
Only 5? sigh
"Bookends Theme" by Simon & Garfunkel
"Mississippi Goddam" by Nina Simone
"Get Over It" by The Eagles
"The End of the World" by U2
"Creed" by Rich Mullins
"Sweet Child o' Mine" by GnR (because, like Jenica, everyone needs a screamer)
5) Who are you going to pass this stick to and why?
No one. Long story, the short version being I don't pass along email or memes. If anyone wants to jump aboard, though, feel free.

You Are A Romantic Realist |
|
You are more romantic than 40% of the population. You tend to be grounded when it comes to romance. Sure, you can fall hard... but only for someone you've gotten to know. And once you're in love, you can be a total romantic goofball... But you'd never admit it to your friends! |
Yes. Yes I am.

Greek Muses
You scored as Clio. You are Clio, the muse of history. You love academic pursuits, but still know to have fun. You're a bit of a tease and a prankster.
Which of the Greek Muses are you? created with QuizFarm.com |
Yup.
Season
You scored as Winter. You are WINTER. You're more introspective, thinking deeply, feeling deeply. You love nothing better than to enjoy one on one time with those who are important to you. You are cautious, and sometimes second guess yourself. Dreams, though you have them, are a luxury, because life is not a plaything.
What Season Are You? created with QuizFarm.com |
I don't consider this good news!
Classy
| You scored as Middle Class. You're content in your position and would prefer a house or a family than a seven figure pay cheque. But you have your moments of weakness when you buy a lottery ticket in the hope of knowing how the rich and famous live.
What Social Status are you? created with QuizFarm.com

Ok, I guess that's true.
